Even if you forget to check the load rating on the tyre with that on the placard, an insurance assessor won't.

thanks for the help guys. ended up taking the soft way out and got some Advan V103's. not fully scrubbed in yet but already feel shiteloads grippier and most surprisingly more comfortable than the "touring" tyres that came off it especially considering the guys put an extra 5 pound in them. very happy so far.

Older subject, but here's my "two-bobs'" worth...

I've recently fitted 4- 225/45x17 Yokohama "S" drives in place of 215/45x17 RE050's.
They cost about $250 each.
Still legal, as they are within +- 10% of original,
and no perceptable speedometer difference.

Great looking tread pattern...
Let's face it, there are so many restrictions these days, the "look" is sometimes more important than the "go"!

I was seeking a "fatter look" without changing rims,
They definitely "look" a lot more than 1cm wider than the 215's!

I ran them at 35PSI at first, but, maybe due to their "taller" sidewall and wider section width, they felt "soggy".

I now run 40PSI in Front & 39PSI in Rear, which is great & creates very slight "oversteer"...
A little noisier than the Bridgestones, but very good looks & grip.

For those with 18's, I think 235/40x 18's might be correct diameter replacement for 215/45x 18's.
I ran 235's on 7" rims on my previous car, and I've got 245's on 7" rims on my '72 Charger as well.
All seem OK!

Best that you mount one tyre first to check guard clearance F & R.

Anyone with feedback on nitrogen?

:D

You may be the only owner I know who's after a fatter look for their 'look'. :P

235/40-18 may be the direct replacement, but I've been told by most wheel places 235 is a bit wide for 7.5" wide rims, which is why most folks on here go 225/40-18 instead. Smaller diameter but a closer match in relation to tire and wheel.

It is the combination of width and profile that is important.

I'd quite happily put a 235/50 on a 7" rim, but would not use 235/40 on a 7" rim as anything but a spare.

I ran 225/40/18 Kuhmo Ecsta KU31's on my WRX. They were on 18 X 7.5 rims. I think I'll be purchasing them for my car when the time comes. Great tyre and when I last bought them they were $160ea from Tempe Tyres.

A mate of mine has 18" spec B rims on his 08 WRX and runs the 225/40/18 Kumho KU31's on it. They look fine on the rims, not baggy at all on the 7" rim. I researched them extensively as I wanted a tyre that was quiet. They beat quite a number of big brand tyres in the reviews I read.

I have replaced the stock Bridgestones with Falken FK452's in 225/45. They fit fine, have improved the ride and corrected most of the speedo error as their rolling diameter is about 6% greater than the 215/45. They were also half the price and they have plenty of grip in the dry. Not as good as the Bridestones in the wet though. I would certainly recommend them.

Awesome.. Was looking at them to replace the POS tires I have on mine atm. Don't ever buy Maxxis. Oh so horrible, no idea what the old owner was thinking....

What did the Falkens cost you in the end?

I have had 235/45R17 on a 17*7 rim and the guy in the tyre shop reckon the max. size you can fit on a 7' rim is 235.

I'd happily fit a 255/65 to a 7" rim, but would not drive any car with 235/45s on 7" rims.

To the best of my knowledge, they are now putting the 225 /40's on the tbSTi's (MY08 +).

Gen IV MY07+ Spec B's or tbSTi's have the 6mt STi box.
"225 /40's on the TB STI's (MY08 +)" is correct, but I am positive there was not a MY09 tbSTi.

Did you not think there's a reason that Pirelli recommend that tyre go on an 8.5" rim and state that 8" is the absolute minimum?
