Cooling

Postby squid372 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 8:28 pm

hello everyone.

I have an issue that hopefully you all can help me out.

I suffer from heat issues due to FMIC.

Has anyone build ducts or vents to get air to the radiator?

everyone's input would be very helpful.

What temps are you seeing?

Temps are stable when normal driving. but when you do robot to robot it starts to heat up. i see temps of 107 degrees celsius. i would look at ducting around the intercooler to cool the radiator

I have a FMIC and I haven't found any additional cooling issues - sealing up the area to maintain flow through will certainly help though.

Also I think for OP, why not go E85 for the cooling effect?

I'd suggest looking into your cooling system. Blocked rad, fcked fans etc. Because unless its a monstrous thick core it shouldn't affect your cooling to drastically.

That's the issue. it is a very tick core.

Like 80mm/100mm? If you have a stock tmic and are feeling motivated, pull the fmic off throw the tmic on and see if your cooling issues persist. I'd be doing this as a last resort.

One other thing, when you did your fmic did you remove any factory shrouds/guards? Because without them it can affect cooling

But there would be stuff all air flow when doing the robot to robot right? So not sure that ducting would help. I think maybe you are overwhelming the cooling system. Ways to improve the cooling system or reduce combustion temps is what is needed. But I'm no expert :D

The ducting/actually isn't just about directing the airflow from driving. But is also mainly to help direct airflow being pulled over the rad by the fans.

so i am running a dual core radiator to aleviate the issue but not enough flow is going through the radiator. what have some of you done regarding this issue in your high power cars

Well, if you're certain your intercooler is your issue, aside from rectifying the airflow issue with it, anything you do is a bandaid solution.

Even with a thick core like that it should still not be to bad. Right now, aslong as you know your cooling system is all OK. The suggestion hardwarebob made would be your easiest solution. Seal as much of the open edges between rad and ic, so when your driving the air being pushed through the ic is also being pushed through the rad, and when you are stationary the air being pulled through the rad is also being pulled through the cooler core.
