Put the RHS in after work yesterday because that is the one I suspected was failing and I didn't have time to do the passenger side. So far there's a 99% improvement. The major hesitation/stutter is gone. I can't tell if there's still a slight bit of hesitation or if I'm just being hyper-sensitive because I'm looking for it. Either way I'm going to change the passenger side on the weekend.
Something else to note, and I don't know if this is just a coincidence or what, but having driven it for 1 day since putting the new part in my average fuel consumption has gone from 10.4L/100k down to 9.0L/100km. Come to think of it, I used to get in the 9's and it went up into the mid 10's ever since I started noticing this problem about 2 months ago.

Good luck to anyone else who's chasing this problem!

Good to hear mate! Mine were posted from partsouq today.

Some confusion about banjo filters in postFL's:

You'd have to ask someone who tears these engines down often.
But as far as we know, based on basic research, mostly from US sites eg LGT, the 2.5T has them behind the LHS inlet cam gear, and on top of the block under the turbo inlet tube.
They're there for a reason, eg if you spin a bearing, it can keep debris out of the turbo and ocv's.
They can also be removed with no ill effect.

If there is a filter, its at points 3 (x2) in this diagram.

Intriguingly the RHS oil supply line in the diagram looks more like what you'd find on a preFL, with the union screw on the back of the LHS head.
I'll check my spare block next time I'm at the garage, where its sleeping in a container.

PreFL RHS style:

PostFL LHS EJ255: see the re re re post of HammerDowns filter fun.

But don't stress, 99.99% its going to be your OCV's. Chances are... there are no filters in the postFL 2.5T.

I feel for you, my car was the same when I bought it at 150K: shithouse.

A few Throttlehappy tunes, 2x new OCV's, 3" tbe, pump, filter, airfilter, STS, ShockWorks and some other junks later its an on-point dream boat!

I decided to finally log my AVCS angles. Mine seem ok :)

The Left side (Blue) often goes 1 Degree higher when the angles are stationary/flat for a while (eg at 0 or 40). And is sometimes slightly slower to respond to a change. But not bad overall. And no oscillation etc in the other Steady RPM logs.

Just to add to this thread, I have just had this issue with my car, stall/stumble on take off p0021 and occasional p0011 etc. Mega rough idle if its held at 1500rpm and oscillating cam advance at cruise speed (logged with rom raider/tatrix, Shoutout to All Star Garage - Thanks ).

I did the freak out that it seems some people do (or just me?) after cleaning the the OCV's I pulled the banjoe filters out (I have a facelift 07 - it has them on the font of the passenger side head behind cam pulley and under intake on driver side, mild blockages on both maybe 20%?)

Ended up buying 2 new ones (partsouq - 3 days - $180AUD) after eliminating every other possibility, put em in, car is amazing now, much better manners off idle and better economy, but here is the important one....

I have had a couple of fuel cuts (didn't know what happened at first) in the past couple of months, owned the car for about 3, it has a Pulse Racing tunes, supposedly ~200kw@16psi, boost was hitting around 18-19psi i assumed it was just a spike, however after replacing OCV's its perfect@ 16psi. No more fuel/boost cuts

Lesson is this fault can potentially cause engine damage, fix it asap and don't go WOT. (Hopefully mines OK).

Good stuff!
I log the angles regularly and swap ocv's side to side, every 25-50k klm. Keeps them in sync, probably since I didn't remove any filters. Next engine, I'll remove the filters...
The next major issue I had was a faulty coil pack, easy diagnosis and fix: log misfires on all cylinders, replaced affected cool pack :)
