That power level is about right for an auto with your set up and a non happy dyno.
I got the same power level on 98 with similar mods with turbo being a td04hla-20t which probably flows similar to your 38/34 hybrid.

dr20t the numbers you are quoting for stock vf38 power potential on 98 would be for manuals, correct? Viv has an auto.
On e85, my current turbo has more potential (flows more) than a stock vf38 and I can't see any logical explanation with my current 180kwatw why I am down 35kwatw (215 kw max less 180 kw)

Thanks for your reply Archie.
Umm...if its the right power level... then what is the point of changing the stock vf38???
The stock vf38 can make 150-160kw atw.
I did this setup cause I was told it would make close to if not 200kw atw...

Try not to get hung up on dyno numbers that people say it should achieve as they could be basing this number off a manual car or dynos that read higher than your dyno.
Instead see if you get obtain the qtr mile mph of similar modded cars to compare otherwise see if you can get on the same dyno as those cars that have similar mods to yours.

Fair enough...I understand that.
However the main problem is that the car doesnt feel any faster after the turbo change and tune??? thats the problem...
I am just mentioning dyno numbers as a way of portraying the problem in a way that people will understand.
Trust me...the way the car is now...I wouldnt have bothered wasting my money on the vf38/34 turbo, fuel pump and fresh tune.
Thats the issue im trying to raise.

I understand your point ie bang for your buck you feel you didnt get the value you thought you would.
So whilst it 'feels' no faster you have no numbers (dyno pre and post mods or qtr mph) to support this seat of the pants feel.
One option is go run a qtr mph and you can compare to the mph they run stock.
That will quantify your 'feel'......everything else to do with dyno numbers you should be achieving is too variable and speculative.

Here is something you can draw some comparisons from:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13903&start=15

Vf34 18psi and 180kwatw on a manual.....factor in you have an auto and your number doesnt look that low.

Oh and more importantly Ian ran 100mph at this power level.

20 to 25 kw less than a manual sounds about right
CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.

In that case, im not sure why so many people recommended the setup I have now to get to 200 kw atw???
I remember my first tune with the stock turbo got me around 150 kw atw.
After this hybrid turbo and fuel pump, I only got 160 kw atw (despite it being on a different dyno, they are very close and off feel I can confirm that there is not really much improvement as I was expecting).
Not much of a difference at all.

Same tuner?

Different dyno is always a going to make a comparison very hard.

Unless you have same car with exact same tune and setup and air temp on both and they read the same.
(This is extremely unlikely)

My stock tuned auto G4 with straight through mufflers only put down 121awkw on a dyno that I just pushed 273awkw on (same fuel - 98)

So 150 and 160 at the wheels seems pretty high to me for a VF38 based turbo setup but that is the dyno result.

Have you a previous 0 to 100 time to compare your current too?
CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.

I got 167kw atw @ 16psi with stock vf38 turbo, turbo back exhaust, silicone inlet and CAI on the MSR Dyno
Again depends on dyno, temp etc but for something to compare too
MSR tuned GT wagon - 167kw & 591nm
AVO Dump, Invidia Catback, Silicone Inlet, Process West CAI, BC Coilovers, Work GT5 wheels, RDA slotted & Dimpled rotors, Intima SR&SS pads

I tuned it with VF38 and Phily off this forum made 167Kw with a VF38 :)
Adam/JEM tuned on bigger turbo(ported exhaust housing which affect A/R so a little big laggier but OP wanted top end power)

Ryans VF34 combo put down 208Kw on 16psi, Morgans VF34/38 made 165Kw on 10psi before he fixed his fuel pump issues

Thanks for your replies everyone, including Matt.
In that case...What could be the problem with my car?
Adam from JEM said that my auto transmission is locking up fine.

I just had the "pleasure" of seeing a JEM tune on another lib.

Holly sheet. Get a retune from another tuner ASAP. Insight, MSR, Kido...as much as I give Matt crap about the BS he posts, at least he actually makes improvements on the stock tune.

Yes, the tune I saw from JEM was worse than a stock tune. "De-tuning" would be the correct name for the service they offer. :banned:

Very seriously advise you to get your tune checked by someone/anyone who knows Subarus (dr0t or another tuner etc). If you think missing 20kw is annoying, wait until you're paying for an engine rebuild.

+1 for Matt's tunes

He made me 167kw on my stock VF38 turbo. My only other mods were:
- Turboback HKS exhaust
- HKS panel filter
- Process West TMIC

Mine is also auto transmission and ive timed my 0-100 and usually get 6.3s logged via BTSSM

Edit: This is on 98 octane fuel

Yeah full turbo back - hks dump, hks centre pipe with silent chamber and hks espremium cannons

The sound is nice and clean but no boxer rumble. Quiet on idle and cruising but quite loud on wide open throttle
