SI Drive Cover

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

Can I suggest a "press fit" rather than needing double-sided tape? Even a small dab of "removable" glue would be ok to secure it, rather than needing tape.

You can suggest anything you want Gene :D
But my answer is no sadly hahaha

Way too hard and the oem dials are made out of plastic, so the tolerance on them would make it impossible to make it fit everyone's dial snuggly. That's why none of the other companies have done it that way either.

I plan on putting 4 separate pieces of tape on the quadrants of the underside of the cover. That should give it more than enough bite, to prevent it moving independently of the oem dial.

The underside of the cover is also domed to match the top of the oem dial so it should be a fairly nice fit.

Adam I would also suggest alcohol wipes for cleaning surfaces on dial before applied. You WILL get complaints about dial coming loose etc if not prepared properly.

You can buy these in bulk.

Thanks for the tip. But I think people can look after that themselves.

Hahaha would you like me to fly around the country and personally install everyones cover for them too?

This isnt a product thats going onto auto part store shelves... its something im getting made (at a great expense to my personal time) for the forum as a favour, not for profit. I think people can source their own metho to clean the oem dial

Tape sounds fine to me Adam, I'll take care of the surface prep myself though

I'd like mine in a clear display box resting on felt.

Oh, and the wipe.

Yeah Im happy to surface prep myself too. That said, The Spec B makes a good point to ensure that for optimum bond, to prepare the surfaces before installing. I didnt know this until something was said. But a cautionary note for the owner to do this would be enough. Adding wipes at Adam's expense (cost or time) and the like is a bit OTT. He is doing a bloody good job getting it this far as it is. I am truly grateful for his time in setting this up because I know how much of a head ache it is to organize a lot of people with different thoughts and suggestions into one consensus.

What ever it is Adam, I support it.
Cheers
Shav

Thanks Shav!
it's my pleasure :-)

For those interested, i can offer the clear plastic packaging Chris suggested.... I just bought a 300m roll of glad wrap that'll take care of that job nicely!!

As for the alcohol wipes, I'll dig up a link for places to buy metholated spirits... for $3 you can get a life time supply... and in more desperate times it makes a tangy drop when mixed with coke.

Cheers Shav was just a suggestion and vital it's done before applying. If missed I'm sure there will be posts stating dial is coming off.

peadya100 wrote:Yeah I was very conscious of the overall diameter of the cover. The cover itself at its widest, is only about 1.5mm larger in diameter than the base diameter of the OEM dial. Which leaves it well inside the led text and pattern on the gear stick side of the dial.

I can do 1 better than dimensions for you Daniel. Once the design is finalised I’ll give you a drawing of the decal, so you can get it made up.

:D Love your work
