I need your advice on fix/upgrade path! 2.0GT Manual

Postby TheLiberty » Mon Jun 15, 2015 10:41 pm

Hi guys,
After some advice from people with experience with the 2.0GT Manual Lib, 05. (Pedders coilovers and rear sway bar only mod currently)

I have a rotten egg smell coming from my exhaust, it's been multiple weeks and the smell is hanging around
So far I have tried;
-Waiting 3-4 weeks or longer
-Filling up multiple times over those weeks
-Checking for errors (using an ECUdatascan and an alternate OBDII reader)

Nevertheless, problem still resides and I have no idea what the cause is.

My next step is taking it to the mechanic to have this problem looked at, which I am about to do. Here are some questions!

-I want a power increase, I've been told by multiple people that my best bet is changing the dump pipe and then doing a tune, is this still the case for the 2.0GT? I've been told today that the REAR MUFFLER is the most restrictive part and will be more beneficial than a dump pipe, is this correct?

-If it is beneficial, I will replace my faulty Cat (if it is that) with a 200cel, buy a dump pipe and get the Cat, dump and tune done all at once, which Cat and Dump pipe should I get?! I google and just get overseas Legacy versions somehow!

Should I be looking at getting a turbo back exhaust off the shelf, including everything? Not sure what the most cost efficient path to take is here

All i've found so far is this, for $750 and probably with shipping cost on top, i'm aware Garage88 do a dump pipe and getting that is definitely a possibility depending on other options available.

Dump, turbo and tune. Replace cat if needed.
Kinugawa make a bolt on replacement, its the only one available.
Search the forum for Kinugawa I guess to find a link and discussion on it.

Good luck

That's crap - my car made 180kw atw with the stock mufflers and a dump (non standard turbo, but you get the point - they can flow enough.) tbh I'm still not clear if you CAN get off the shelf dumps suitable for the 2L twin scroll anywhere except G88?

Whats your location?

AMauto do a drive in/drive out dump with 100cell cat for $550. I paid $650 for stainless. Screw paying more than that, plus post, then having to fit it yourself.

I want to stay with a 200Cel Cat I think, not going to fit myself either, don't have the time, means or patience.
I'm in Pascoe Vale, Melbourne.

I thought the same myself, but the person who told me,is very experienced and good at what he does according to what i'm told, so you can understand why i'm torn!

I have emailed Garage 88, might call him today...I just got told by Invidia that: "There is no one that makes a down pipe for your car, only cat back, these are $1190"

I also have the 2.0 GT, but mine is Auto. It was bog stock when I bought it and about 2 months ago my first mods were a PhatGT dump bought/installed by Garage 88 and a Kido tune by Matt on the same day. Dump was about $850 from memory, not cheap but the quality is outstanding and it's been ceramic coated as well. From memory, all up the dump + install + Ecu tune was around $1,500 and the difference it made was MASSIVE. Those two items really do change the way the car drives, solid increase in power and it comes on much sooner, throttle lag gone, gear changes much better/smoother (on an auto) and fuel economy improved. Basically after this was done it felt like the car should have felt when it was made.

Anyway, in a nutshell I was where you are a few months ago. PhatGT dump and tune was a great choice for me, very happy with the build quality and the results after the tune. The dump/tune combo came recommended from more experienced forum members and they nailed it. Bang for buck it gets two big thumbs up from me :)

Bugalugs thanks for the awesome post man

I have got the same info and had a chat with Alec from gotitrex who agrees!

Also spoke to Dom at G88 and looking at getting the phatGT dump shipped to me and then a tune and that installed at the same time!

Seems the best way to go

yeah it might get tricky from G88, from memory he only made orders in batches of 5 per 2.0GT M/T, 5 per 2.0 A/T

But you may be in luck if he has any in stock :)

this is because 04-09 legacies in US all have the same single scroll setup, because they are all EJ25 (although slightly different side feed/top feed etc), and whoever wrote that doesn't know what they are talking about.
