Just ordered turbo and asked for 12psi and 15psi springs. 12psi should be safe to run on wastegate hopefully.

Hoping for a good power increase over stock after this. Hopefully it will be better to drive as they are quite underwhelming stock, although that could have been my turbo too.

Signs for failure for me was not hitting peak boost, inconsistent power and turbo spool, and towards the end intermittent boosting in general. Sounded like it had a massive boost leak and would keep surging. Eventually wheels hitting housings and no boost when the shaft must have snapped. Was 100km from home when it started failing so unfortunately ended up driving it longer then i should have.

Both of my cars are now in pieces with major failures. So no car for me. Going to try and get the Patrols engine together tomorrow so I have a car. Put a new liner in the block today in between stripping the Liberty.

Fun times :-(

Pretty much the life story of a lot of liberties here  Here's hoping it's just your turbo that's damaged.

Seems like these cars can be real duds. Wishing I just bought a XT Forester at the moment, much simpler proposition. Just wanted a reliable turbo wagon. Had an XT Forester before so thought I'd try something different this time.

195k.

Just talking in general after spending time in the forum. It's amazing how many issues go unresolved or the number of common things that can cause it.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Make sure you check your banjo bolt screen filter while turbo is out. Could've been the culprit and cause of your blown turbo

Cheers mate. Got a quick description of where these filters are to check? Would be awesome.

On the right hand side head, under the manifold risers, roughly 5cm forward of the back inlet port.

Hard to miss - its a 12mm bolt (could be 14mm I haven't done one in a while), with a bulb in the bottom connecting to the turbo oil feed metal line

Remove it completely to be safe - only purpose it serve is to protect the turbo from metal shavings if you spin a bearing or blow a piston to bits (oil in metal)

Cheers mate. Should be a nice improvement even on 14.5psi wastegate after having the stock turbo struggling to put out 12psi. I might have the Mrs hold my wideband and slowly boost it up and see if the stock tune will compensate. That should help answer the question about whether or not the tune can handle it.

Is there a quicker way to get on to Kido other than PM?

What psi actuator do you want me to order with the turbo? Will have a silicone inlet and the dump (pic below), but everything else stock.

Thanks, could have used that two days a go, haha. Will see if I can order one now. Will it be alright to run wastegate pressure of 1bar in the meantime, or better to try and stay off boost. I could try and adapt the factory one too. Will ring you about a tune in the next day or two and chat then I guess.

Tactrix OP2.0 arrived today. Also ordered a 65c fuel pump and silicone inlet. In a rush to get this thing going as I'm going up Cape York in two weeks on a boys trip and the Mrs will need a car to drive while I'm gone.
