Hello guys and girls
Due to the lack of Bluetooth connection to my radio i am thinking about replacing it.
I have checked out a fair few forms here but have not really found what i am looking for.
My problem is i don't have a AUX input anywhere and from what i understand putting one in would almost cost as much as a new HU.
So what i really want is to have handsfree calls and stream music because atm the only way to stream music is through a FM transmitter.
So does anyone have any suggestions for me or am i looking at a new HU?

Sounds like you'd probably looking at a new headunit. If the current stereo system doesn't have those functions then you're out of luck.

I do this with a Jabra Freeway. It works pretty damned well, I have to say.

Maybe look at the dealer options for your HU.
Most take either an aux-in or stacker.
You can diy an aux-in for a few dollars, or go the dealer route.
Stacker plugs interface with units like the Grom, Anycarlink etc.
A fourth option is a Jazzy interface if compatible.
Or an FM modulator hardwired to the aerial plug.

So ID your HU, then look at the available input options, then work out a solution that suits you.

FYI I'm still happy with my Belkin Aircast Auto BT plugged into the aux-in for both call and music. Its inexpensive and adequate.

Ok so i purchased a new HU today and went to get it installed. My requirements were that i wanted to gain BT and retain full use of my steering wheel controls and still be able to run the rear entertainment system through the car speakers. Unfortunately i did not work out. The installer (with years experience) said there is no way to keep steering wheel control and DVD audio with a after market system and he called Subaru and all sorts of suppliers. Anyway i got my money back so i cant hold any grudges but leaves me back to the start, minus a new HU option. I do have a couple of pics but cant seem to upload them ATM as it is saying they are to big. Any ideas how to reduce the size of the files to upload them. They were taken with my phone

I used exactly the one linked above when I got my head unit upgraded. All the steering functions work except when I try to change radio stations with the seek button it tunes the frequency instead of going to the next preset station lol

I'm not sure what he tried TBH. I did say i wanted to retain full function of the steering wheel so maybe he ruled this out. In any case even if this did work i still have the issue regarding the RES. So basically it means i need to keep the original unit which i don't have a problem with except for the lack of blue-tooth. I believe there is a way to run an additional AUX cable but need to look into this more. This is probably my best option at this stage.

So after going to a Subaru dealer today and being told no you cant replace the HU without loosing function on the steering wheel and audio from the RES as they don't make any plugs to suit (which is sh1t) He then told me that my only way to gain Bluetooth is via a parrot system which i don't know much about. So i will look into this but has anyone else used this system and what is your thoughts.

What's the plan now: Stock hu or upgrade?
Do you have the rear DVD package?

Swc's can be made to work with aftermarket hu's using an adapter harness but some research will be required.

So yes you have aux-in capability, and possibly CD CHGR compatibility for Grom etc.
As i mentioned you can diy an aux in adapter (3.5mm plug) for a few bux or buy the dealer option.

You have a "2008-up Non-Navi" stock Clarion PF-3290D HU, so you can find comaptible CHGR interfaces by seaching 2008+ 2008, Subaru Impreza/WRX/STI/Outback Sport devices.

Either way contact the distributor for confimation. Some have better SWC integration than others: so do the research.

If you choose to go aftermarket let us know and we can look up SWC interface compatibility.

Sorry for the delayed response. Been a crazy few days. At this stage i am thinking i will keep the original HU as i think it is a lot of stuffing around to put an after market one in considering i don't mind it except for the lack of Bluetooth.
At this stage i like the sound of the Parrot system and will go to JB in the morning to discuss with them. I just hope it will work on my HU otherwise i am not sure what my next option is.

I've given you the info for a diy BT solution for less than $100.
A bit more if you choose a genuine Subaru aux-in...
And your dealer could fit that for you if you don't like diy.

Plenty of members here are happy with their parrot bt systems but beware a JB install imho.
There are competent installers out there, but you'd have to research that one
