Introduce yourself

Newbie with a Liberty GTB2.5

Postby Tien GtB25 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 2:54 pm

Hi all,

1st post ....1st Subaru.... ex VL turbo / Lexus owner.

Brought the car yesterday ... will be transfer into my name tomorrow.
Black 2007 Liberty MY08 2.5 Spec B.....stock standard 130km+ and still purr beautifully..... rang Subaru Australia and was informed that toward late end of 2007 ... my car was manufactured and rolled off the assembly line with 2008 specs in anticipation of rolling it out in 2008. Hence it is a MY08 eventhough Vicroads confirms that when it complianced in Australia in Dec 2007.

Stock as a rock.
Image

I going to keep it for awhile so 2007 or 2008 will not bother me, only the next guy if he is fussy or IF i decide to sell it.
1st impression.... the more i drove it the more i liked it . Different to my previous ride - now i can enjoy real music and answer calls compared to exhaust music ... of which my 6 yr old dont like no more "Daddy's car is too noisy". Played around with the different Mode setting and was moderately impressed with the power... my itch for mods started already.

For now it going to be my daily ride but plans are already creeping into my mind for mods.

1- Bluetooth to intergrate with McIntosh existing audio for phone.
2- 3-Port Boost Solenoid (Is this neccessary atm as the car is stock standard ?)
3- Kido tune (keen interest in the Melb meet for improvement / fuel efficiency)

Any recommendations to start the mod journey will be appreciated, (minus exhaust/intake please).

For now that all... but I promise to ask questions and help out others as I know u guys will return the favour.
Talk soon.

wouldnt bother with the 3 port unless your upping the boost decently imo, but they are fairly cheap and playing it safe never hurt anyone. However if youre uping the boost you might need a better bov aswell.

I would suggest an exhaust and intake to start your journey  haha but seriously you will hit limitations without an exhaust (you can get pretty quiet pieces) I have a aftermarket headers, up,down and 3 inch to some loud mufflers but when i put the stock mufflers back on the noise was minimal. A little raspy in the cabin but i run almost a straight pipe.

Maybe just start with a dump pipe + tune. Stock mufflers are very quiet, shouldnt bother your kid to much :)

Lovely car Tien.

I fitted a Pierbrug 3 port solenoid on the recommendation from Kido Tuning. The boost level increase wasn't a lot post tune, but according to Matt, the 3 port helped the increase become more 'stable' when on boost. Basically helping the car accelerate smoother when under boost.

I got mine from here, and Matt fitted it for me. http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/produc ... odels.html

thank you all the the info.

2 days in and I'm planning and scheming again. Ohh well... I tried didn't i .. That 48 hours ... Then I got KT- ed by Bryce last night. drove nearly 2 hours after work up to Sunbury and it was worth it. throttle respond improved a lot especially 3000rpm....flicked mode to HARD .. OMG .. The car came alive on. So much fun on the journey home.

Bucket list.

1- Bluetooth for phone (done ... Using Garmin GPS with build in Bluetooth for phone)
2- 3 port solenoid (will ask Matt for help to install when he here in Melb)
3- KIdo Tunning (done)
4- dump pipe / centre section (need to slip this one in quietly without the wife knowin)
5- LED interior globes (impulsive buying - Jaycar $10 for map lights / $15 for dome ... Couldn't resist)

Damn list is growing :angry2: god sake..... Ohh well.. Such is life !

I dont think he needs more encouragement. haha

Tien - Make sure you search all of the parts you are looking for before you make a purchase. That way you are well informed of the positives and negatives of the route you take. It's worth the time and effort. +1 on speaking with HKS180 about globes. He'll look after you.

I also got my DP from here. http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/produc ... Down-Pipe-"AUSTRALIAN-SPEC"-with-Hi-Flow-Cat-suit-Subaru-Liberty-Automatic.html

Thank you all for the suggestion but I should get a second bed 1st.. im going to needed it the way things are going. My wife can get...... well....you all know how women can get sometimes

I'm heading for better stoppin power and slight performance improvement (nothing too excessive, for now).......sooner or later the car going to be noisy again ... working hard to keep this to a minimum to food on the table after work, dont want to rely on uncle McDonald and colonel Sanders to feed me.

Halo eyes are nice but im over the cosmetics appeal stage... tired of unwanted attention from pigs and boyracers.
Talk soon.

Ps - love to meet up with Melb people sometime in the future but not too much (meet up = ideas + itch = lighter wallet)
Tien.

You can sleep in the car Tien. You dont need a bed. Otherwise get one of these...

Brake wise, I went the T2 DBA rotors with upgraded pads. A marked improvement in braking distances and pedal feel. Affordable upgrade too.

Hey Shav,

I also got my DP from here. http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/produc ... Down-Pipe-"AUSTRALIAN-SPEC"-with-Hi-Flow-Cat-suit-Subaru-Liberty-Automatic.html[/quote]

I thinking of fitting this and the 3 port solenoid on so Matt can tune the car while he here... one question ... with the Invidia .... do u need the Grimmspeed adaptor to transition the 3" to OEM factory center piece ? I going to leave the center and back section stock - downpipe = power gain by 10% already... rite ? Please let me know

For now that it... been so busy... going to build a house ... a new world of pain.

Hey tien,
Awesome. Glad to hear you got the dp. I need to ask, are you going to fit the dp yourself or get an exhaust place to do it? If the latter, dont worry about connector as they will have some (confirm this prior to proceeding), if doing it yourself then yeah get the adapter. You will definitely notice some improvement in the low to mid power range for sure.

Building a house? I know exactly what your going through. Just finished mine a year ago but still doing bits and pieces. 18month custom build. 4yr total project. Lucky im the building designer but at the same time I should have picked a flatter block. Lol. Hope it goes well.
Cheers

Thank you Shav.

I was asking as my uncle own a workshop which I will most likely to do it myself. Just serviced the car ... took the whole day ..... $630 later she running smoother than ever. Changed Oil filter / fuel filter / cabin filter (unbelievable the amount of dirt in there) / pads / machine discs / replace steering boot / sparks and flush radiator as well. Im lucky that I can get parts at garage prices... but ... my uncle makes me do the work myself ... his words were "it your car.... you know to do .. do it" :(

Looking to install boost gauge / oil pressure and temp / dump pipe and Pierburg solenoid. Will post pix soon. :D
Im slowly catching up with your mods. Going to use your car as a benchmark for now. :clapping:

Talk soon.

haha. I feel honored. I reckon you'll well and truly surpass me though. Yes, nothing wrong with getting your hands dirty with servicing. I'd do mine myself but it's still under lease and I need a licensed mechanic to service it.

Bit by bit, you will see improvements. It's the best way as you get to appreciate even the smaller mods you do rather than throwing a wad of cash doing everything at once and not know what component has given you the best bang for buck.
Cheers
