MY05 GT 5MT Wagon and loving it

Postby HardwareBoB » Sun Oct 05, 2014 8:30 pm

Name: Matt
Ride: MY05 White Liberty GT manual wagon
Location: Melbourne, VIC
Mod: Unsure at this point, HIDs, Turbo?
Plans: Bluetooth input, increase sub gain, new rotors and pads.
Occupation: computer stuff
Year of birth: 1981
Interest: car mods, computer stuff, electronics, my son/wife take up most of my time though!
Previous Rides: 1990 180sx (severely modded, 0-100 in 4.9, 200kw, mid 12s), 2003 Astra SRi turbo (FMIC, VRX turbo, dump pipe)

Always wanted one, ticks all the boxes for the family and for me!

I just bought it, drove it straight to adelaide!

The turbo seems to have been replaced or modified, because the intake to the intercooler isn't flanged, it's using a silicon hose:

I only just got back from adelaide, and I only took the one crappy picture and I haven't had time to have a good look at it, but unless someone can work out what's going on there, I'll take off the heat shield and have a good look.

Looks good mate nice pickup :)

I've always loved the white, some 18s, and a lip will set it off visually I think

Can't help with the turbo though, good luck

google the serial number cast on the turbo! Maybe the silicon hose adds a few hundred killerwasps!

Looks mint, you should get HIDs and a fully forged bottom end with worked heads! ;)

It already has HIDs!

this is the dyno sheet from the previous owner:

That torque figure explains why it still caned when fully loaded to go to adelaide

Yeah Kirby was a great guy to buy a car from, would recommend! went out of his way to make sure stuff was sorted for me.

First thing I will be doing to it is pads and rotors, the stock brakes for me seem terrible. DBA T2 rotors and QFM HPX pads.

Second thing, bluetooth with any anycar 1080D

Third thing, cubby phone mount from http://www.cubbymounts.com/#

Fourth thing, http://www.obdkey.com/obdkey_subaru_support.asp

Fifth, maybe an adjustable BOV because I am a total sucker for the psschhh, but I also want to be able to turn it off.

yeah no idea, just to come under budget i suppose! if you have enough coin you may consider braided brake lines thatd go nicely with some pads and rotors

I got braided lines for the astra, they were only $100, but The $200 or so for the braided lines for the liberty are out of scope for now, but I'll probably get to it in the future - maybe after I sell my old car!

I just ordered front T2 rotors and intima SR pads, that should resolve the pressing issue.

Welcome Matt.

I would exercise some care when looking at this bit:

The 05-06 ECU doesn't work with many OBD offerings - maybe read this:

I have done my research here (some of it in that thread you linked), I already have an elm 327 cheapy i used on my previous car with torque on android. I very specifically linked the obdkey as it is one of very few obd type adapters to support SSM, which is what audm and JDM models use. The usdm models all have obdii because it is a requirement over there. Not only does the obdkey work with SSM, torque does as well, as of about 2012 iirc (although obdkey also comes with software)

Because of this, I actually emailed the obdkey guy to see if I could get a group but going as I am sure others are also interested in this. Unfortunately that was a few days ago and I have heard nothing. I will buy one anyway but I was hoping to get a better price and to help out other people as well.
