Gen 5 tyre and wheel help

Hi all,

In the market for a new set of tyres for my 2010 GT sedan. Since have to change the tyres, thought of changing the wheels as well. Appreciate any advice people could give on whether it is a good idea to go up from the standard 18" to a 19 or even 20's? I don't want to lower the profile too much as this is still a family car with the mrs driving it quite a bit with kids so the drive needs to still be bearable.

Have been researching a fair bit but unable to decide so thought of asking here to get some advice from people who have upgraded their tyres/wheels.

Also, with a change in size, would I need to get the speedo readjusted?

BTW, am In Canberra so if anyone knows of a place that does good deals, please let me know.

They are brilliant, much better than all other tyres that I have had other than the $700/corner Pirelli's on my Porsche in the BK (Before Kids) days. They really suit the car and in combo with aftermarket sways do a great job. I think that any larger tyre for family driving on the Gen V is too much and takes away from the 'wolf in sheeps clothing' feel of the car, but each to his own!

Current deal is $100 off each set, when I bought them it was 4 for 3.

If you do upgrade your wheels I would be happy to buy one of the wheels that you have to replace my space saver!

As for the speedo, if you use a GPS device of any sort you can get a correct reading off that. No need for all the hassle to adjust the speedo.

Plug in your wheel specs and it'll show you the error % and such, so based on good ol brain memory and calculation you can keep an eye on your speedo and determine whether your over or under the speed limit.

The RE002s are quite an aggressive tyre - Bridgestone say they replaced the RE001, but they're not a like-for-like replacement IMHO.

The Bridgestone S001 is the tyre that Bridgestone say replaced the RE050A (which was the OEM tyre on the 4Gen GT Spec.B) - it's a premium sports tyre, and I believe a good fit for a Liberty.

Stick with 18" wheels, going larger will compromise ride quality (I note you bought a Liberty and not a WRX).

Precisely my point - don't go too big on the wheels, but go better on the tyres. If he's looking for a bit extra the move from s001 to RE002s negates the need to go up in wheel and down in aspect ratio and stiffness.

Consensus seems to stick with the current wheels and just get good tyres. I was kinda veering towards that today after having done some more research and figuring out that with a 20" wheel, the max profile would be 35 and for a family car not the most appropriate.

What do people think about the Michelin Super Sport?
Got a quote from BobJane- $1100 for the Michelin or the Bridgestone (not sure which ones)

$920 for Yokohama S Drive and $960 for Pirelli P7.

Any opinions?

Hard to work out brand for brand as its all so subjective and no one has tried them all!

Pays to shop around, price differences are huge (last time I rang 10 different retailers it was up to 50% different and some dealers were better with some brands but worse with others).

In QLD, depending on brand, I find the cheapest prices either at Jax Bowen Hills or All About Tyres and Wheels Hillcrest.
