I also want this - or better yet - pay someone in Melbourne to do it for me

I was able to work it out. First you need to root your nexus and install clockworkmod recovery. I found the best way to do this was to download android toolkit and use the 1 click For all function. Once this is done restart your nexus and go to google play and download rom manager by clockworkmod. Also download timurs rom straight on to the tab. Once downloaded go into the rom manager app and click install rom and select timurs rom from sd card.

Also you need to download the gapps for cyanogenmod 10.1 and flash that using rom manager the same way as you flashed timurs rom. Otherwise you will not have google play services

you now have timurs rom on your tab

I dare say its your cig lighter....my cig lighter has 2.1a output as well, and cant even power my phone using Gps...let alone the N7!

Get a mini-box....problem solved..

My N7 (2013) charges (albeit very slowly) with GPS on and external DAC plugged in from 2.1A. Get a thicker cord/ better 12v-USB plug first before spending $100 on a power supply

Ended up being the cable. I've ran the power cord under the center console / cup holders and drilled up through the storage between the seats. Got a thicker cord as suggested from Jaycar.

Music, GPS and phone connected, it charges. Been on 99-100% for the last 4 days. :D

Next adventure, Ive been using the Aux Out from the nexus and plugin it into my AnyCar unit. This has a terrible buz. Picking up a Beringer UCA202 today and hopefully the audio running though the OTG will make the different.

Thanks for your help guys. Will post audio results.

USB audio out will only work if (a) your device is rooted; or (b) if you use USB Audio PLayer Pro - https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rpro&hl=en

Sound quality is much better and louder with the UCA202. Good luck!

Yeh its rooted and connected with the otg y cable.

First attempt:

Nexus to> OTG to 202UAC to Anycar Aux = Fail

Next attempt will be:

Nexus to> OTG to 202UAC to Anycar USB

Fingers crossed..really dont want to purchase the FSL Aux unit..

Umm.. 2 things wrong here.
1. Anycar reads USB media, it isn't a straight passthrough audio input link an AUX connection.
2. UCA202 doesn't have a USB output, soooo yer.

If [NEXUS > OTG > UCA202 > AnyCarAUX] doesn't work then replace the AnyCar AUX with any active speakers just to see if the sound is actually getting through the UCA202.

Troubleshoot to determine where the music is stopping/not playing before replacing parts.

Go to Settings>USB Host. Under USB SLAVE DEVICES it should list the items mounted to the Nexus. Check to see if your DAC is there.

With regards to the buzz.. Is it there only when the car is running? If so, you've got alternator whine and the DAC won't fix that unfortunately.

1. Ive been using the anycar as an aux pass through prior to this setup. Mine has usb, sd and aux. Yes the aux has no head unit control, just device.
2. I was thinking maybe RCA-USB cable may work...ive got one lying around..but as you said the anycar acts as a reader and you are probably correct in saying this wont work..

I shall check this out!

Buzz is just when music is on, device can be connected and in aux mode but will not buzz. Ill have a play tonight.

Thanks for prompt responses.

Nexus to> OTG to 202UAC to Anycar Aux = Success.

I have a question about the OEM sat nav system (which I don't have in my car)

If you are listening to the radio or the cd changer, do the voice instructions of the OEM sat nav override the factory mcintosh audio automatically, or do you have to have the system on AUX to hear the directions?

It would be awesome to get this functionality with the Nexus install, so that you could hear the voice directions no matter what source you were listening to...
