178kW...

Postby AdamW » Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:45 pm

Finally got all the performance mods completed on car :D :D :D .. Still waiting for wheels to arrive thou.. Any day now..
The initial EcuTeK boosted power from 130kW to 155kW..
Then with exhaust, TMIC & CAI & retune up to 178kW.. So all up about a 50kW gain..

So far..
TEIN adjustable coilovers
MRT centre section and dump pipe
Hyperflow TMIC
Hyperflow CAI with pod filter
EBC TGD (Turbo Grooved Disc) Rotors
GPS tracking alarm
EcuTeK tune
+ KAHN 19” wheels should arrive Vsoon..

Car goes incredible.. Michael at OPM Sport worked on the car for about 12 hours last Friday to get all the work done on the day as it was a 2.5 hour drive back to my place.. Was told to bring it back next time I am in the country and he will spend another few hours on the dyno and should be able to easily push it over 180kW.. I have heard some bad things about MRT in Sydney, its only lucky for them that they have some decent resellers that pick up the slack..

I cant believe the difference it has made thou :o .. Even “I” mode feels way better than “Sports#” ever did when the car was stock :D :D .. As its my first turbo car I am still having some fun with the suction noise from the open pod of the CAI.. I will eventually get a box fabricated to suit, which will do away with most of the noise.. The exhaust is exactly what I wanted, it is still really quite inside the cabin (the suction noise is a bit overpowering at the moment thou).. I am yet to hear what it sounds like outside.. Next time I am Oz I will have to get someone else to do a drive by in it.. Am looking into bigger turbo now or modified internals.. Nothing too big thou.. It will always be my everyday drive car so I don’t want to sacrifice low & mid range performance just for the sake of big numbers..

Will post up some pics when I have wheels fitted.. They will hopefully arrive with in the next few days.. I drove my old dear’s MY05 3L Liberty (auto) to Brisbane air port Wednesday morning and I could not believe the difference in acceleration & breaking between the two cars.. The handling of the 3L was still pretty good thou, or maybe I just thought it was good because I was traveling a lot slower in the 3L.. Anyways I am incredibly happy with the car at the moment.. & now I am stuck out here for another five weeks..

that sounds like a really awesome setup for everday driving... ECUtek made a big intial difference too

have you changed the mufflers at all, or still running stock ones.. GT or STI?

I am still running the stock STi mufflers. I wanted to keep the exhaust noise to a minimum.. When I have the pod filter boxed in I should actually be able to hear the exhaust.. You can hear a slight crackle and a few pops when you ease off the accelerator..

Indeed, 25kw with the chip... hmmmmmmm. Hehehe.

That is great that they managed to get it all done in one day [albeit a long day at that].

Nice power given the simple mods!

Do you have the dyno graph? What boost level.

Cheers

Yeah I was quite impressed.. It’s a bit of a rocket now.. I live out in the GC hinterland, so not much traffic, just a mix of long of windy roads & a few tight corners.. Its given me back my excitement for cars after it was lost over my previous pain in the ass ride..

They raised boost from 15 to 16 PSI..

Dyno graphs are still in glove box.. Didn’t get time to scan them in, I am only back in Aus for a couple of weeks at a time.. Will see if I can get someone back home to email them through with the pics of the wheels when they arrive..

only 16psi......... i was thinking with 178kw you were around the 18-19psi bracket, would be interesting to see the dyno graph and how the boost is maintained in the mid to top end.

Also your tune did not require a haltech piggy back ecu........ another interesting point, as most tuners will only use this combination for 07 and 08s

hhhhhmmmmm, might be worth a drive up there for tune......, come on pro20b, i know your thinking the same  , would be a nice road trip

MY08GT-B has pretty much same mods, with same result..

http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?t=1431

He also has dyno sheets up.. Will email folks back home to send me dyno sheets ASAP.. Tuner doesn’t recommend going any higher boost with stock internals.. He was also talking about modifying internals of turbo (bigger turbine) to get more flow with same PSI..

As much as i am impressed with the power AdamW's making, i would prefer to be able to have it done using an ecu that ain't locked, therefore limiting who is able to tune the car.

Just the fact that there are only a few AWD dyno’s around (in SEQ anyways) and even fewer decent tuners that know how to tune our cars properly, really limits who is able to tune Libs.. I had to drive 2.5 hours to find someone with a decent reputation and who I now trust.. Its not something you plan to do to often (unless you get some pretty major mods to your car often, its more of a set and forget).. Now that the EcuTeK is paid for I only need to pay for additional dyno time for any more tuning work.. And I am happy to make the 2.5 hour drive every time.. There is also a pretty long list of resellers nationwide that can retune the EcuTeK..

I'm there's a few people running the EcuTeK on the MY07/08, as MRT have done the R&D already. Most people just don't like paying MRT prices so they go with other alternatives.

Haha. Why would you drive up to QLD just for an EcuTeK tune, especially when they are just re-sellers and the source is right at Rhodes? :D
