Torque curves for the spec c and ej257 are exactly the same above 2000rpm

Thanks. Sounds good. :) :good:

Slightly different. Vf49 is still solid. Vf53/56 of the spec c / r205 /s206 has titanium blades.

All have dual ball bearings.

Vf49 will still make the same low down torque and power.

A part of me wishes I had experienced the twin scroll goodness of this engine when paired with the factory turbo. And the one that was with my engine was especially special. F55 was the designation (as opposed to VF) and my research led me to it being a prototype turbo in the r205 test mule, along with my engine.

VF49 install completed today!

I need to source a GRB/F splitter/shroud because the new TMIC is bloody huge compared to the stock one!

I also need to modify turbo heat shield to fit the O2 sensor bung I've had put in for the wide band, but that's about 30 mins with a angle grinder ;)

Also need to get a few more revisions of the tune. It's running very rich and hits boost cut in 3rd at 4000, 5000, and 6000 RPM (probably 7000 RPM too, but can't really get that high in 3rd) at just over 20.5 psi.]

Little more information now I'm not so tired

As you can see from the pics, the stock LGT plastic intake manifold is gone and an STi one is in its place. I've used the stock LGT throttle body as the STi one has an extra sensor in; I'm guessing this is the reason Mick tells me it won't 'talk' to the LGT ECU.

I've used the JDM STi headers and up pipe (which are in really good condition) to fit the 49 and also the JDM down pipe (modified to remove the front cat-convertor) mated to the stock forward, centre/Y-pipe and tbSTi muffs.

Biggest issues we came across was the routing of the head breather lines and the coolant return line from the coolant header tank across the block to the RHS of the engine. In the LGT, the breather lines run next to the coolant line across the block, but on the STi ,this is impossible because of the location of the turbo outlet and the lack of clearance. The breather lines are actually attached to the TMIC. As for the coolant one, we were able to pilfer a part from a WRX engine Adrian (User: Boxer4 on OzFoz) had lying about. This moved the line from right where the y-pipe connects to the turbo to further forward.

It's far from neat, but I wasn't (and probably never will  ) for for "neat" in the sense that things are perfect. I just don't care as long as it functions properly, and isn't a complete mess, I'm happy :)

New tune revision received overnight. Off to test this baby out!

(J, new peak boost is 19 psi from 2800 RPM to redline. I wonder if it'll hold...)

Great to meet you Sean

Saw this thing in the flesh and the enormous effort in such a short time frame must be commended

Can't wait to see the new donk in there and scaring everyone! :)

Well done and catch up again in due course

Thanks Mick, appreciate that but much of my progress is based on the research done by others ;)

Definitely can't wait until new engine is in especially because my girl's now a quarter of a million old...

Been a few days or weeks... or any time really without me having updated.
But I'm just about set to launch on the engine swap.

I'm just waiting on
- air pump delete plates
- composite TGV deletes (Zerolift ones)
- new cam cover seals
- engine stand

stand should hopefully arrive in the next day or so; but I'm not sure on the plates, deletes or seals. These are coming from Kris/Entra-through-Kris.

Tomei head gaskets arrived this morning. Had to go Tomei because I can't order the correct ones from Sub-Aus and Sub-Jap is on back order. Better be bloody good at $400 for the pair!!!

I've decided that I'm going to leave the VF49 in place for the time being; I had been toying with the idea of just doing a turbo swap while the engine is out. But I've put that on the back burner to give me time to sort my weak link out, the gear box. Anything more than a TD05-16G is going to stretch the limits of the friendship and that is barely bigger than the VF49... so more boost can wait.

Hopefully I get the parts I need before Friday so I can start the swap! :)

Thanks for reading
Sean..
