Hey guys, don't despair!

If a few reputable shops are fitting these without issues, then it's definitely a bolt on, (maybe not one you should DIY). Should cost minimal $$ to fit. :D

Hammering the cat was probably not the best idea, your tuner should be able to see how well it flows when he's tuning it. A 100cel metal cat should still be ok.

If you had received the manual version - it wouldn't bolt up at all. I pointed out the differences in the other thread, basically the mounting bracket needs to be completely changed/welded on, among other things.

If msr can get it to fit nicely without having to cut or weld anything, then you shouldn't need a slimmer cat (for those who haven't fitted their dump yet)

Phat dumps were ceramic coated mild steel made by Liverpool exhaust. It's possible you can just call them and ask to make you one? They weren't the greatest pipes according to a few reviews.

Thanks Alexei. Its getting road tuned when Matt is in Melbourne early June so will be interested to see how well it is flowing.

Seat of the pants in i mode (and with base Kido tune) still tells me there has been an improvement so hopefully it has not negated the benefits too much. Really looking forward to getting it re-tuned though to unleash it.

Sorry for the hijack to your thread Manaz...

Thanks Alexei. I was going to get my mechanic to fit my dump when it came in (he owes me a favor), but he isnt an exhaust guy, he could do it, but it's not his level of expertise. So I am better off getting an exhaust place to properly fit it and take their time to get it done right. Hopefully I have been sent the right unit. No way Im am DIY this job. It would do my head in.
Cheers

If your pipe aligns properly it would be a pretty straight forward job, trickiest part is probably getting all the heat shield bolts and then trimming and re-fitting the heat shield to fit around the new dump. Well within the realms of a mechanic.

I might give him the option. If he isn't confident it can fit, then I'll ask him to take it to an exhaust shop he recommends to get it to fit. But only IF he he believes it's the best overall solution. The guy is clever and does a great job in everything else. But I don't want this to be a botch up job so I expect he will do the right thing.

Sorry for the late chime in, havent been on in a while.

im surprised michael has recommended the invidia pipe, from the sounds of it hes basing his suggestion on invidia saying theyve fixed the dump design, but i have a feeling he may change his mind after trying to install rob's.

My xforce dump fits so effortlessly on an auto with minimal mods. Personally id go down that route as its a proven result. So far we're only hearing horror stories with the invidia.

In saying that michael is the king and would never steer you wrong, he'll get whatever you buy to fit... you just may end up being the reason he stops recommending invidia dumps for autos

And if it doesn't, so you are forewarned, it seems you have 3 options:
1) send it back and get another - nevermind the stuffing around you have endured to get to this point (and like me probably waited 1+ months for your pipe);
2) gently "caress" your cat with a hammer or similar to make it fit - so far i cannot tell any ill effects being metallic core and well within the outer s/s casing; or
3) supposedly a 2 metre length of steel stuck up the cat end to bend the pipe whilst bolted to the turbo. To me this seemed likely to cause other issues.

So, hopefully it fits and you got a good one. Because none of the above options are fantastic for a product that carries a premium price on the basis that it is a "perfect fit" and requires "no modification".

FYI, the pipe fits and is based off the US LGT 5EAT design. Just clears the steering column :)

I have seen 2 fitted to S Edition Foresters so far :)

When you're tuning my car in Melbourne Matt, I'll let you crawl under it to see how well it fits.

Maybe 90% of them do fit well and don't require any mods, but its sounding like there are a few out there that for whatever reason do not align well. Wondering it is is a pipe issue or something different with the cars themselves ie (slightly wider casing on auto?) FYI mine is a MY09 Gen4. Wonder what the others were?

I was told, as long as it's not touching any other components, it doesnt matter how much clearance there is, it should be fine. If MSR recommend it and there is a technique to fitting these without going to it with a hammer, then I feel confident it should fit ok. I reckon the next batch of dumps will need to be revised for some extra clearance in future though. Perhaps a slimmer cat is the way to go. Even an extra 10mm of clearance is better than nothing.
