Well.... I haven't updated this in a while!

A few big updates since this last post... so here is an update to get you all back up to speed. :D Gone is my neat little MY06 2.0R with plastidipped grey wheels, to make way for my new baby, a MY05 Liberty GT. It doesn't help that I currently work behind a Subaru dealership, so my daily runs to the post office brings me through their carpark and I cannot help but to window shop when I go through. That was until I saw this car first in the customer bays at Subaru Osborne Park. I initially thought it may be a customer (or staff member)'s car, and didn't give too much notice. I really liked how it sat and it was just a nice looking Lib. Over the developing days, I kept seeing this car parked either on the side, or out the back of Subaru. Then towards the end of that week... I was driving through the carpark en route to the post office, and I saw this car in the front row of the dealership!! I was not in the market for a new car, I had just recently replaced the clutch on my 2.0R from a dual mass to single mass flywheel, and had a few cosmetic bits and pieces to put on the car, so I was pretty much content for that moment.

The car would've probably been sitting at the dealership for a couple of weeks at this stage, where one night I was going on a date with a girl I met online... we were going to meet close by to where I work so I planned to go straight from work and meet her (meeting was at 6pm). She msgs me at around 5pm and says that she had to stay back at work and will be very late (she was a vet nurse), she said closer to 7-7:30pm. Now at this stage, I was deciding whether to either go home and come out again... or wait. What to do...? I could go to the nearby shops, or I could walk and window shop somewhere... ahhh the Subaru Dealership!! :D So when I went to the dealership, this was a Thursday night and it was close to 5:30 at this stage... the dealership closed at 6pm. As I was walking through the yard looking at all the cars (and making my way to the Lib), one of the guys approached me and ask if I needed any help, I pretty much jumped at the opportunity and said that I wanted to have a better look at the GT, I went to the guy, you don't need to tell me about the specifications of the car, I know enough about them already, can we go for a test drive? Went for a spin and fell in love straight away! This story is already getting a bit long winded... but cut a longish story short... the writing was on the wall since that drive... I signed the papers the next night! After some negotiation with them... managed to get $8K for my 2.0R, which is not a lot... but it had 150,XXX kms, and plastidipped wheels that was peeling (which the dealer thought was powdercoated!!), and the ticket price of the GT was $19,990.

Bit about the car,
- MY05 Liberty GT (Feb 05)
- 101,XXXkm
- rear whiteline swaybar
- 18x8 Advan Racing TCII wheels
- 'Level 2' Pedders Spring suspension
- in built radar detector with front and rear sensors
- 3" custom exhaust from turbo back with 3" Magnaflow mufflers
- K&N Pod filter connected to Hyperflow inlet pipe

Here are some photos from a crappy mobile phone.. the only ones I have at the moment are ones I have recently taken, but pictures nonetheless. :)

Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

Who said internet meet ups are all bad
Definitly has a nice presence to it Dan, you've done well picking it up!

Suggestion though is scrap the K&N in favor of a "dry" filter. Our MAF sensors hate the oil that is applied to the K&N when they are cleaned :good:
Hope all the tuning issues get sorted out soon too so you can enjoy what the car should be again.
mod -> tune -> drive -> get bored -> repeat...

Hahaha yeah Ian, the date didn't go so well but I got a car at the end of it so it can't be all bad!

Well at the moment, I am only trialling it out and I would definitely like everyone's input on this... I have recently cleaned the filter and put it back in without oiling it. Besides the fact that I know this is meant to be an 'oiled' filter... but what is the worse that can happen if I don't oil it? It's not as though the filter will stop filtering or does it? I hear a lot more induction sound now, and car seems to be a bit more lively.. I've tried searching on the net and couldn't find any answers. I'm not looking for obvious answers, but I just want to see if anyone out there is running a k&n without oiling and have you found any significant difference between oiling and not..

Your lib looks great! Your profile pic doesn't do it justice :)

I ran a panel K&N filter for 30,000km without re-oiling it....didn't have any issues. Maf stays fairly clean, about the same time as it did with the filter oiled. The manufacturer says to oil it, so it's probably best to oil this type of material. Just keep it conservative, leave it to dry a bit, and check the maf after a bit of driving. There is so much misinformation over this issue, from people who've never ran one. The first time I put my filter in - it was very oily. My car didn't lose power, choke, die or blow up, and the maf wasn't covered in oil.

But IMO if you're worried about it, and not planning to oil, get a proper dry filter designed for the application.

Thanks Alexei!

Exactly the type of opinions I'm seeking... cool... well the K&N filters are supposed to be straight OEM replacements as they say... I've since re-oiled mine now, and let it dry/set before refitting it, wiping any excess oil off as well.

Yes, the Lib is slowly getting there... everyone can probably vouch this comment... but it's like being in a love/hate relationship with this car... will run awesomely... then something else happens that you have to improve and/or fix! haha! I will eventually look you up Alexei for some brake bits once the bank flow rises again!
