Intro from T'Bar

Postby gazza021 » Fri Mar 28, 2014 4:42 am

Hey everybody, thought I should introduce myself, I'm a longtime lurker but haven't really posted before, been into Subies for ages though, used to be a member with the OzLiberty crew before that went all pear shaped. Anyhow...:/

Name: Gerry (Gary or Gaz work too, whatever's easier.)
Ride: 2004 GT Wags, 1995 Lib Wags
Location: Toowoomba, QLD
Mods: Pretty much bone stock.
Plans: Only maybe's nothing concrete, but, ECU retune, Exhaust and some paint fixes are about as far as I've thought so far...
Occupation: Assistant Manager
Year of birth: 83
Interest: Same as most blokes, Cars, tech, loud music and beer. :P
Previous Rides: All Subies, still have the first one. Had a Silver GT wags before a kangaroo necessitated getting another one. :/ Subies seem to be a family thing, we currently have 4 of them!

Thanks guys. A cruise would be awesome. Pics are coming, as soon as I figure out a place to upload that won't disappear in five minutes. :-)

Isn't that the place where people upload nudes?

No, you're confused. You're thinking of the internet :) Can honestly say I haven't seen any nudes on there, yet.

Pics as promised! Pardon the quality, they were taken with my phone, plus needed to edit the plates out. Also the QLD plates are ugly, need better ones soon!
This GT is originally from Sydney, I think it's had 3 owners before me, good service history too. I've no idea if it belonged to a forum member at any point? Needed some attention when I got it, idle was terrible (loose vacuum hose from BOV), faulty O2 Sensor (from what I hear it's a fairly common problem? Easy to replace anyway) and the original trip computer was dead. There was one from a newer TBSTI in there instead but it wasn't very happy. Owner gave me the dead original so I sent it off to Sydney from some TLC and it works fine now.
Previous owner also replaced the McIntosh HU with a refurbished one, so it works great but there's some damaged trim that I've yet to replace. Pretty happy with it overall, though I've mixed feelings about the 18's, my previous GT had factory 17's and rode a bit better, 18's on Toowoomba's crappy roads can be a bit stiff, though they do look good in my opinion.

Next thing I really need to look into is I think there may be either a small boost leak (I have looked over everything but need to pressure test to be sure) or perhaps the wastegate is having an issue. Factory BOV was past its prime, replacing it made a marked performance difference but I don't feel it's 100% yet. Generally though, it's a great cruising machine and just eats the K's without fuss. :)
