broken h7 bulb bracket

Postby klam » Mon Mar 31, 2014 6:53 pm

friend of mine has been lucky to break the bracket while changing the h7 lightbulb in his subaru outback. I reckon, the brackets are the same. It's broken right where the screw holds the spring/wire which runs across the bulb and clicks-in to the bracket on the other side. As he was pulling the wire/spring down the part where is the screw has broken.. I reckon the whole insert is gone.

what options he has? I haven't pesonaly seen it so it might be a vague description. But is there any part number that would be enough to replace and fixes the problem or does this 5$ thing ruin the whole headlamp? I've looked it up in the subaru parts number. thanks.

the picture depicts the location as he describes it, not the actual defect.

Sounds like the same thing happened to me when I was changing a bulb. From memory, on mine there was a bit of plastic where the screw went in, and it must have been brittle as hell as it snapped without any undue force whatsoever.
I don't have a definitive answer right now, but I'm trying to get to a local Subaru wrecker in Melbourne (Mordialloc) as I'm selling my car soon and want to fix up a few things, including that annoying bracket, so I'll post on here again as soon as I find out how much they'll charge for it and how easy it is to replace.
However if in your instance the broken part isn't just on the bracket itself, then it may be harder to fix. If I remember to, ill enquire about the headlight casing when at the wreckers.

it happened to me also where the plastic broke away but left the entire screw in there aswell. mine was a clean break and i didnt loose the part when it snapped and i just super glued it back on.
but not with ordinary super glue i used some stuff called Rapid Fix it comes in a pack with 2 bottles the first bottle is the super glue but if you add the second bottle to it which is a powder it makes like a plastic weld its super strong. i used that and just glued the entire broken part back on and then added some of the powder where it was seeping the edges and so you cant see the break now it looks ugly but who cares. it worked for me i think the kit was $25 i got it from Sprint Auto Parts
