N/A sf5 engine into 1999 liberty wagon problem

Postby 1953chev » Wed Mar 26, 2014 6:51 pm

I blew up the ej20 in my 99 liberty wagon. I picked up a cheap ej20 out of an sf5, also N/A. I have swapped the engine over and all seemed fine, all bolted up and the plugs all seemed to fit, however when I went to kick it over the ignition switches on and then won't go. Then when I go to turn it off and pull the key out the ignition stays on. Can anyone give me any pointers as to why it would be doing this? Even though the plugs are the same do I need to switch the pins around. Ohh yeah the motor is a jdm sf5

You've checked all the plugs are connected, properly earthed, etc? Could have a stuffed coil pack. Have you still got your original one? Swap them over and have another go.

Yeah all plugged in, wierdest part is that the ignition stays on even after the key is taken out. Doesn't even kick over so shouldn't be coil pack but I'll have a look

Ignition staying on definitely suggests something is wrong in electrical land just can't think exactly what though.

So I figured out that I can't use the sf5 engine loom, also the intake manifold/throttle body are a bit different so I ended up changing over the whole lot. Works fine now, although the motor seems to have a few flat spots. The coil packs are the original ones so I'd say they need replacing also. Thanks for all your help

Things are not as common as they seem. You'd think they would be but that's too logical
