Shaking/Shuddering low RPM under load

Postby studbag » Fri Nov 22, 2013 1:26 pm

Hey guys,

I've got an MY07 3.0r spec B which has started to shudder at low revs (1500-2500, sometimes 1500-2000) and then seems to be very slightly noticeable the rest of the time, ie it has a very slight vibration that I can notice under most circumstances.

At first I thought it could be my spark plugs but I'm ruling that out now as it isn't missing.

Only thing I can think of is I had the CV boots replaced at the last service as they were split (137,500k), could be a possible wheel alignment issue? I've never had a car do this before though so I'm not sure it would be that bad, and because it is at a specific point in the revs I don't know if this would be the problem.

It is exacerbated with more people in the car.

Any ideas?

Stu

Could be a number of things . Like clutch cvs tyres
I had a vibration and noise taking off that went away once at a cruising speed that got worse over time till it turned into a loud thumping banging vibration/noise. Was a destroyed uni joint on the drive shaft

Do it feel more engine or driveline ?

I have the same thing... The car most of the time is a testament to Japanese build quality, and then at very low speed - like parking - it gets all juddery and clunky.. Why is this? I have had the car checked over and all is well.. is it a "they all do that, sir" moment?

Ta for any thoughts on the topic..

I'm leaning towards CV joints being buggered, anyone know what I'm looking at to replace them? It is bumpy at full lock at slow speeds like parking as well.

Did they replace only the boots, or the entire drive shaft?

Yeah it was only the boots they replaced as they had both cracked, I'll be replacing the entire shafts this time and I'll be doing the work myself.

Could be the rear diff mounts being as they are liquid filled, is one or both leaking?

If it's clunky on full lock, it's your centre diff. Common problem with the preface 6MTs. $1500 incl. labour should get you back on the road again.

FIXED!
Mine had slight vibration @ 30kph. Any slower or faster it was fine. Replaced front driveshafts (myself, easy job) one at a time. Noticed a lot of improvement after replacing drivers side, then zero vibration after replacing passenger side.
Researched many driveshaft suppliers for best quality replacement s but concluded they're all made in China but best to get a remanufactured rather than new. I got mine from Jim at Central Driveshafts Sydney. Great service & only $99 ea + $15 delivery.
Looks exactly the same as the OE one's i removed.
Happy camper.
Cheers.

My replacement drive shafts arrived yesterday, I'll fit them this weekend and post the results.

Swapped mine yesterday morning, was straight forward and took a little over 2 hours myself.

Smooth as butter now! I got mine from A & L driveshafts. Feels so much better.
