Castrol Edge ranks 17 for the 5W20

I noticed the 5W20 Edge too. Already knew it was an impressive oil, but that is brilliant.

ive heard some bad reports about Castrol oils causing film build ups in engines though ive never seen this myself and not sure which oils they are

Contact Bill Reed at Lubrication Management in Dandenong. That's who I buy my Amsoil from.

For the record, the Yaris has the Signature Series 0W30. The test data supports my decision.

Mick, there are around 467 different Mobil 1s (almost as many Delvacs too). Some are rubbish and others are brilliant.

Bloody hell that's 10 mins from my house. Spoke to Bill he suggested 10w40, also picked up the Amsoil engine and tranny flush, just to wash out the left over particles/crap from previous oil. Car is draining for the next 3 hours

Bill is very knowledgeable and happy to chat and explain what's what - definitely recommend their service! They said I can come back in 7,000km or when ready to get the oil tested.

4.8L set me back $100, which is a bit dearer than the Nulon's $60, but I didn't expect to get Amsoil so cheaply, an on par price with Mobil 1 etc oil.

Met a guy there who said he drives a 1998 Camry, always used Amsoil, changed every 35k/or once a year - done 640,000km and still going strong! Not bad Amsoil, not bad

Correction: 5.6L cost me $100, the required amount for an oil change being 4.7L would have cost $85. I like a little extra, for low heat cooking and salad drizzle

GB- I got the motor oil premium protection, which is a 10w40. Signature series only comes up to 5w I'm pretty sure. However I was told that the 10w would be best for my kms, and it's specs are the best I've seen out of any brand so far

Rob- he suggested 10w40 over 10w30 for the time being since it's my first change to amsoil. Then maybe change to 10w30. I've never seen someone put so much emphasis on the numbers like that. We were technically talking about Amsoil but I believe the consensus was not to go to a 5w for my 170k gt. I did tell him my car occasionally uses oil.

That's why he's called Lubrication Management and it's what I've been banging on about on here for years.

After testing, he may tell you to stay with the same oil, but he also might recommend a change ... based on the test results. He may tell you to leave the oil in for another 5,000km, or he may tell you to dump it asap. Given how much data he has collected on EJs over the past 20 years, you can bet his best guess is better than most, but he will still make a recommendation based on data from YOUR engine.

You'll be amazed at what he'll be able to tell you about your engine from the UOA.

Yes, he's an Amsoil retailer and yes, Amsoil are pretty big on marketing claims. He is however a top bloke and an expert who started selling the stuff based on how well it was performing in his tests, not the other way around.

coyote- do you actually think he would say leave it in longer? I like to keep the oil in good condition when I dump it not half farked

He wanted the oil sample from inside my oil filter - so I'll be changing oil then.

Gb - according to their experience with turbo liberties Bill said amsoil gets 10-15k kms between changes on 98. I doubt they would let you get it farked based on what we spoke about. Obviously if you're running ethanol - different story.
