What tyres are on your car and do you like them?

I have been using Yokohama ADVAN AD08's 215/45/R18

They're are specified as a road legal track tyre. Except they are extremely better then any road tyre in the wet or dry, and they have beaten proper racing semi slick track times at Tsukuba. They don't need to be warmed up to grip and they last as long as any high end road tyre. they have metal reinforced sidewalls so turn in is amazing, just fitting these will make your car feel as if it has had sway-bar upgrades. I will never buy another type of tyre these are the best of the best. RRP is a shit load though but it is worth every cent, and a new model AD08R are ment to be out real soon, the only difference will be the compound, the new ones will have the orange oil they have been marketing which apparently increases tyre life... also i haven't noticed excessive road noise but then again between my stereo and exhaust what am i going to hear first

These would stick like crazy.
A mate uses them and cant speak highly enough about them.


I too believe in running a road/track tyre on the street, better than a performance road tyre IMO.

Yeah I figured that the RRP would be way more than what the going rate is though..usually the case but I guess I could be wrong.

Size: 235/40/18 (no issues running these on stock GTB rims, best match for original rolling diameter with more rubber on road <5mm diff RD)
Distance Travelled: ~12,000Klms
Handling in Dry: Excellent 4/5 - more tyre on road with this profile
Handling in Wet: Very Good (haven't really driven hard in the rain but they are supposed to perform very well in the wet)
Handling on Gravel: I don't drive on gravel.
Noise: Excellent 4/5
Value for Money: Very Good ($250p/c on sale)
Looks: I reckon they are a very nice looking tyre 4/5
Other comments: First time I have tried a Goodyear tyre and I have been very happy. Won't hesitate to replace with exactly the same if I get another year+ out of them.

If they are 7' wide, can you post a pic?
I'm interested in how much bulge there is in the sidewall as, like you, I want to keep near the std diameter and a 225/40 is getting a bit small.

Yes they are 7" wide and I have added photo links above in my original post. 225/40 will be too small in RD, the next best profile should be 225/45 which will fill out the wheel guards a bit more around ~10mm larger RD but less rubber on road.

Just some useful info on the 225/45 profile tyre. The car was running this profile (225/45) in a Continental Sport Contact 3 when I purchased the car and the previous owner worked for the company that did the original OEM tyre testing on these vehicles for 'Tuned by STi' on the PZeroNeros. They ended up not going with the 225/45 due to minor contact under extreme handling conditions coupled with the aggressive profile of the PZeroNeros side wall yet he still decided to run this profile in the ContinentalSP3 for years without issue on his own vehicle (now mine ).

I trust the owner of the tyre shop I use and he didn't have even the slightest reservation running the 235/40 profile on my rims. It was fully inspected for clearance etc. As they are a more common size you can save at least a couple of hundred for the set.

The tyres look a little too wide on the rim for my liking. I'd imagine they would squirm around under the rim far more than the original 215/45.

It's a real shame the factory rims aren't 7.5" wide.


I can see I will end up with a 225/45.
This will also help in correcting my speedo error.

I work for Beaurepaires and our fitment guide for a 7" rim specifies that 225 is the widest for fitment. 7.5" EDIT * 8" * is necessary for 235. This is only due to the low profile of the tyres. 225/45R18 is 7mm larger than the 215 stock and is 1.3% increase to the speedo so bugger all

I was initially going to go 235/40 but as it was specified 225 was the largest for 7" and 215 is the optimum size I chose to go the 225
I also run the directional 5 and have had them on for over 25000 now and still plenty of meat awesome handling in most conditions highly recommended. I will be trying the asymmetric 2 tread pattern next set as company discounts are pretty sweet at times. Thats after new tyres for the hilux

EDIT *These "guidelines" for fitment are what insurance companies use to determine whether your vehicle meets the "standards"

Incidentally I got mine done at a Beaurepairs :p also and the owner said they do plenty of 235 fitments to 7" with that particular tyre. I am happy to trust the experience and advice of a professional over a guide which are usually conservative. They don't feel squishy at all when cornering. I will run same profile next time if I use this same tyre. They also allow me to take better advantage of wheel upgrades if I choose to do so. I couldn't justify the added expense of Asymetric 2s but they are supposed to be excellent.
