I have to disagree, mainly coz I have actually experienced this before with a set of wheels...so yes, it could be related to vibration. Was also using tapered nuts and lugs were defiantly not loose. Its fine at low speeds but once you pick up speed and there is more force due to the wheel spinning quicker it can cause vibrations without them.

But anyways, as stated he is using them so that shouldn't be the issue as long as they are the right size. Strange though as you would think that if it was an issue with the wheel it would be picked up by the machine when it was being balanced.

Actually. You'll end up with lug centric wheels... not hub centric. Most of the time this isn't too noticeable. It can be an issue though due to manufacturing tolerances combined from the wheels (esp if cheaper = less quality control), studs, and nuts, the wheels can be quite a bit off. Having hub centric rings leaves no play in the system. Not to mention it also reduces the risk on possibly shearing studs when the wheels are exposed to lateral forces

Good point.

In theory if your wheels are well made and there is no vibration you should be able to get away with not having the rings but if the wheels aren't close to perfect and you get vibration you could end up with decent issues.

Defintely sure there are centric rings as they checked them, they were fitted with them.. They've come to the conculsion that one of the rims was machined wrong so their replacing all of them. Hopefully that's all it is!

Moral of the story is dont purchase lower quality wheels.....

But to be sure definitely use quality tapered lugs.

No hub centric rings on my Enkeis, no issues with using the Project Kics lugs though...
