AFTERMARKET HEADUNIT GEN 4

Postby phuriouss » Tue Oct 08, 2013 6:48 pm

hi everyone,
had a quick look in this section couldn't find what I was after,
I understand that if I wanted to go double din, I will have to buy a fascia to suit but cbblol
Just wanted to know if there was an aftermarket single din head-unit that I can plug-n-play to replace the stock mcintosh system. or will I have to change the amps and all that other stuff...
I have 05 gt liberty.
thanks guys :D

If you want to replace the stock head unit you need to buy the aftermarket facia kit as you also need to replace the heater/aircon control unit ( this is included in the replacement facia kit )
I believe the stock h/u somehow integrates with this part so if you just went ahead and switched the h/u it would no longer work

You also need to replace the stock 5channel amp under the passenger seat

Yeah mate , you'll need one of these (Make sure you get the right one for your model) http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_54_60&products_id=123
Then either do the wiring yourself or buy a harness. Luckily all that stuff was already done when i bought mine as it gets quite pricey because of the heater controls etc

I totally bought an old broken 'tosh radio and got some custom plastic CNC'd up and placed in the front, then made a new loom to go directly into the 'out' plug for the speakers :).

So if I removed the stock Mcintosh sytsem.
And try to seperate the head unit from the a/c controls, I wont be able to use the a/c because the system is integrated?
Sorry this just seems so dumb of Subaru. lols

It is removable. Done it myself twice and seen it done at least 50 + times.

Correct.

On the pre-fl Mcintosh it's seperate.

Post fl Mcintosh and all other stereos (kenwood etc) are all 1 piece.
