BP Ultimate is.

Or is it boosted to 98RON like Caltex 98 is.?

All other things being equal (specific power, cleanliness and chemical composition of the mix), does it actually matter?

if they aren't boosted would the octane rating last longer?

Since the 4 major fuel companies(I still count Mobil) have different chemical compositions and I know the difference due to having worked in the industry and knowing a few people who are industrial chemists, I would say buy Mobil or BP for a Subaru ;)

What about the stories you hear that all fuel in your major city comes from nearest refinery? i.e. when Sydney had the Caltex refinery at Kurnell, all of Sydney's fuel came from there, no matter what brand petrol station. Any truth, or urban myth?

Fuel additives added when it goes into the tanker, hence why one tanker only does one brand of fuel servo etc.

Is also part of how they tracked those Sydney truckies who were disabling the GPS and dropping fuel at some of the independants for cheap cash ;) They tracked the chemical composition of the fuel to determine the source ;)

Hey bosc0. If you drive to and from the city, I recommend the BP on the cnr of High St and Stud Rd. I fill up both subies there and haven't had any issues - probably helps that they go through their fuel pretty quickly being the only non Shell servo in the area. I used to fill up at the Mobil outside Knox until they turned it into a 7/11!

Spot on! I don't usually use that Shell and come to think of it, i've actually heard their fuel may not be 100% as it should be.
