The orbital I am thinking of is a dual action one. Its actually quite light and even in its highest setting barely generates enough heat to warrant the concerns your thinking about. I have this unit http://www.meguiars.com/en/automotive/p ... -polisher/

Works a treat for low risk, light swirl/scratch removal. Again, not like a rotary which spins at high rpm. This is more like a low rpm at best and offers not just a circular motion but an up/down motion to the polishing. Used it many times on my other cars with no issue or damage. The finish comes down to having quality materials really. But the unit is best used by those who know a little about detailing and want to give it a go themselves. Most pro's use the rotary as it cut faster and delivers a better finish but there are risks with burning the paint/clear. Hence why they are professionals.

Ah i see. Well if i cant get it looking better by hand, i might look into something like that Shav... thanks for the tip!
The only thing is hes put a sealant on the car that lasts a really long time, so ive really got to wait for that to wear off before i have a go at polishing the roof. It still looks good as it is now.. so im happy to wait.

fair enough mate. Get ya monies worth with the roof and attack it in say 6-12 months. You should be ok doing it by hand. Just take your time with it, tape up the areas you dont want affected by the polish too. I dont know how many times Ive been lazy to pre tape the window moulds and ended up getting polish on them and not able to get it out.

So I spoke to the detailer. I wasnt sure if he'd polished the clear coat down as far as he could or if it still had some clear coat to play with. Turns out ive still got plenty left to play with... he said they dont go all the way unless asked by the client and they try to talk anyone out of it if they request it. So I guess thats why he didnt completely remove all scratches daniel. Maybe ill hire you to do work on it now that ive seen what you did with the gen 2!!

Hey Adam, let me know once Mick has put the new snail in and we'll line our 2 cars up and see what the differences are.
I expect them to be pretty close.

Mick tunes it next saturday, so ill be sure to post the results. Im assuming it will be about 200kw like yours.. but time will tell :D

So its been a BIG car weekend for me, as i was saying earlier i installed the new turbo on saturday... and i thought id put up a couple of pics.
It was a MASSIVE job to change the turbo and if im honest not something i would do again unless i was short of money at the time. The process of changing the turbo isn't too bad at all... the tricky part was undoing all the bolts that have been tight for 80,000kms and have been getting hot then cold, hot then cold for its entire life.... very tricky to undo with the limited space around the dump and steering knuckle. However we eventually managed it and you'll see in the photo of the engine bay the amount of WD40 that was used to help crack the bolts.

I was supposed to install the 3 port on saturday too but ran out of time.. will leave that to MSR to do on saturday when he re-tunes it.

I've also included a pic of the VF52 next to the VF46 for anyone thats considering upgrading. The VF46 pictured will be in the for sale section soon if anyone is interested.

I was also lucky enough to get myself a honeycomb grill today. :D

Haha, I thought about doing it myself too however after my downpipe debarcle, i said I'll pay the expects to do it.
I'm grateful as the splitter in my downpipe wouldn't fit inside the VF52 properly and blocked the waste gate from opening correctly.
It took an extra hour to fix and Mick was pissed off he had to take off the dump pipe and modify it.

Do you notice a difference with the new turbo?

Well im driving the car as off boost as possible until its tuned... have it in intelligent mode.

I can notice a different turbo sound though... its got the usual whistle, plus now its got a different sound in the mix aswell... sort of like a woooo sound... way too hard to put that sound into words hahaha. You have the same turbo so im sure you know that sound haha

The sound would be different as I have equal length headers, standard mufflers and an extra muffler in the mid pipe.
The headers by far made the biggest difference to the noise.
Yours will still have that WRX boxer rumble.

I start a new job in North Sydney in 3 weeks. I can take you for a spin after work one day.
