Gen 5 Central Locking problem

Postby su34ru » Wed Jul 24, 2013 10:25 pm

Hi Everyone,
Looking for help with a self inflicted problem on my Gen 5 wagon.
I opened the drivers door up to change the stock speakers and ended up with Central locking issues. I had to open 3 harnesses to get the door trim out - 1 each for the power seat memory and courtesy lights, and the 3rd one (the largest) for all other electronic controls (power windows, etc.) including the central locking.
For some reason, when I was done and reconnected the battery, the interior lights (set to door) all started blinking. And they still blink if I leave them in door mode. Neither of my remotes works anymore, nor does the central locking button on the drivers door. Worst part is that I cant open the boot at all (it appears there is no manual release for the boot door). Not great when you have a little one and a pram!
Please help!

Could I have made a reconnection error? Everything else works fine (including the new speakers). Have I blown a fuse? Could some cable on the harness have come loose? How do I troubleshoot?

Hoping for a quick resolution! Thanks folks.

Definitely sounds like you've blown a fuse somewhere. First port of call should be your fuse box. Did you cut off the OEM connector off the factory speaker?

Yes I did cut off the OEM connector. Will check the fuse box.

That's probably where you inadvertently created a short. Did you disconnect the battery while you were working?

I had originally disconnected the battery but went back and forth a few times to check - might have left it connected for a bit. Probably did cause a short. I just hope nothing else is screwed up!
Need to find some time over the weekend to check on that fuse. Got a couple of busy days at work finishing the week.
Thanks anyway, good to know it might be as small as a blown fuse! Just hoping that fixes it.

Hey mate. I gave it a go before hitting the sack. Based on what's not working, I changed fuse no.22 under the hood but no luck. What other fuses should I check?
Attached pics show the fuse layout. Image

I checked every single fuse in the passenger cabin as well as the engine room. Haven't blown any. I guess that's not very good news.

Any further clues please?

All sorted. Apparently I had made an extra connection (one harness near the door is meant to be left unconnected) that was causing an unnecessary ground. Unplugged it and all is good.
