My names Yohann, owner of a MY03 Liberty RX, almost had it for a year, been on the forums for about a year as well, looking up some threads before buying one. I’m 18 full time uni-student, photographer at divine media and estblshd from Craigieburn, Melbourne, don’t really get that much money but every time I do it essentially goes straight to my car, was meaning on making a build thread but kept forgetting, so there’s a few pics of what I’ve done.
I bought the car in July 2012 for $4,000 with 200,000 on the clock :/ The car also came with one exterior flaw and that was being the front bumper, not sure about the background story but it was missing the driver’s side fog light cover and tow cover and there was a fairly large crack in the front bumper so I’m assuming he just hit something, maybe a rock and caked it.
Apparently the car was from Tasmania so once rwc, rego, etc. was done it ended up costing around $5,600, had to get brakes done, new tyres a few other things I can’t remember, I actually had the car and was driving it around on my L’s for about 10 months before getting my p’s which I got last month, and during that time my brother also drove the car around quite a bit unfortunately but yeah

I kind of bought the car at the worst time, being in year 12, had exams coming up and what not, so I didn’t do much to the car for a couple of weeks other than wash it, but then when I finished finally had holidays so started doing cheap mods lol, got around to painting the callipers red

Dat wheel gap doe
This one was my first proper photo of the car

At the time I knew I’d eventually by 18’s, just wasn’t sure on what specs, or what wheels, but I knew my brothers gti had the same stud pattern, so I just tried his 18’s, but it looked just as bad with the wheel gap lmao

Same day, birds built a nest on the gutter right above my car…

Painted the grill blaaaaack

Met up with some guy straight after uni to get these coilovers, came of Marty’s Gen 3 wagon

Meanwhile tried to fit the Mugen lip I bought, was way too short on each side but

Encountered this bolt, struggled to get it off didn’t have another spanner to stop it from spinning so I gave up for that day trying install the front set of coilovers

After giving up I just took the headlights out and started putting in the new phillip bulbs, was waiting on a mate to help me out, parkers blew that night as well so had to guy buy new ones again

Got the fronts in the next day, only to realise the rear bolt holding the strut was about 50x harder, tried WD-40, and waited days and kept trying it, but would never budge

So I thought it was time paint the wheels black, even though the day I did this I officially ordered the RPF1’s

So yeah it was about a month away from my birthday, so my brother and I decided to do a minor service on the car, plugs, filters, diff and gearbox oil, trying to do as much as possible to minimise the cost for tbk and waterpump, never attempted this stuff before on a car, but you gotta learn somehow. Things didn’t really go well, about 5 mins into changing them after pulling out the coil packs to get the sparks out, oil oozed out of the spark holes, so yeah, gasket was blown, not sure for how long and can’t believe I was driving it like that.

Same day, we headed out to suby @ docklands, managed to get the right gasket cover and got some new sparks, bkr6e11, the old sparks were absolutely f*****, all but cylinder 3 not sure why

Didn’t really get much pics of the other stuff happening, as my brother did it as an early birthday gift whilst I had uni, but yeah couple weeks after that, my wheels arrived, it took extra-long as the shop ran out of my exact wheels
Felt like an early Christmas!
18x8 +45

Finally the most epic day in my lifetime came, got my P’s! (May 29th) too bad I still had uni that whole week, but as soon as the weekend hit went to my close mate’s garage and his dad helped fit the rear coilovers in

So the car was finally lowered on the coilovers, reversing out of the garage, saw this parked outside the garage, thought I’d park next to it and take a photo haha, 34’s my dream but right next to a MY06 sti, also managed to lose the front lip I had on it driving around, have no idea where it is, left the house with in came home and it wasn’t on the car

Thought I’d take some pics of the stock wheels on since the RPF1’s would go on soon

After losing the front lip didn’t really like the car’s look at the front, and the front bar didn’t really help, found my brother’s golf lip still lying around even though the car was sold, so I fit that on for the time being, anything’s better than nothing

RPF1 time put them on the car a week before actually going to get the tyres put on

So yeah, 2 days ago, go the tyres fitted, all was going well, until the rear planted itself on the rear lol, the fronts weren’t too bad, but took it for a test drive and I don’t think I exceeded 5km/h, there was so much rubbing it ate through the rubber lining in-between the guard and the tyre, also sounded like bee’s were chasing me, it was undrivable so I had to put the new wheels in the car and drive home on stocks

About as far as I could push my finger, was way too tight (Insert Michael Scott here)

Could someone also explain to me how this works, so I got the wheels aligned as well while the RPF1’s were on, but then after putting the stocks back on driving home, the clutch felt much lighter, and the transmission felt much more smoother, as well as the steering, steering, steering I can understand but I don’t quite get the clutch feeling lighter and tranny feeling smoother, and it wasn’t a placebo effect lol, and here’s where I’m at now, put the wheels on when I got home just to get an idea of how much I need to roll the guards, planning on doing it tomorrow or sometime very soon with a heat gun, hammer and patience

Fronts;
