If noise gets out of control, the fix is easy. Fit a decent muffler right up the front just after the 2 become 1 - fantastic solution if you need it

Thanks Tim,

That is the plan, but then finding the right one to fit up nice and snug will be the issue, plus the hacking of a nice xForce 3 inch stainless centre pipe, not my preference. Might just have to do a custom centre with a larger oval muffler.

Very nice.

Thanks Daniel, but I am but a spectator most of the time. I give then a statement about what I want to see at the finish, and they go about it. I just hope it all works and sounds good in the end.

You make a great Project Manager! :P

That's an idea? Wouldn't mind trying that one day!!! Could make a career out of it!

Today's update:

Image
Some work progress made on the drivers side front guard to create a larger space for the air intake hose. I want a smooth bend and good support for the filter. Almost finished with trimming the metal, just a little more to go. You can see the yellow airbag sensor loom tied back out of the way which must be done before any cutting in this area. Also will need to make some adjustments to the power steering piping running to and from the reservoir. Was only just in the way but will need it re-routed to do it properly.

Image
The front Y (2.25 x 2 into 3.0 x 1) and the flexible joint all went in today. Also, you can see the new Auto Transmission bush (bright blue) just above the front Y pipe. The 3.0R has two Y sections, the rear one that we share in common with the GTs, and our front Y to join the run from left and right headers/cats into the 3rd cat.

Image
You can see here the quality of the work going into the front Y section and the flexible joint that almost looks like a 3rd cat. It is a complex fabrication job to get two 2,25 inch pipes to mate into one 3.0 inch and then into the flexible 3.0 inch joint. Beewwdiful work!!!

Image
First attempt at a supporting bracket for the pump. Mmmm... will ponder that some more as it is not grabbing me at the moment. But warts and all, it is what it is for the moment.

So, did another run to the stainless steel wholesaler today to get another couple of 45 degree elbows. Traffic was atrocious at 3.30 pm in the rain. Every short cut I took was blocked by an accident. Anyway, with the volume of work to be done, I cannot see me getting the car tomorrow, so maybe next week.

Yes Mick,

Quality does have it's price though, and needs patience. But just the same, I am itching to drive her again.

Re: Resolving drone

Postby Tradewind » Fri May 31, 2013 6:56 am

A picture of a drone killer installed correctly on a 3.0RB

This vehicle in NA form with an XFORCE cat back had terrible drone, the local muff shop installed this muff straight after the 2-1 and added a flex joint behind that - perfect sound at the back, no drone inside. Possibly the most awesome system in terms of ticking all boxes for an SC'd car, perfect for NA too

Yes on both counts. I might make a wall board in the garage as a "Roll of Honour" for the products and services that contributed positively to the build.

So, Gino, Bruce, Justin, Mark, Brian, you all need to send me your stickers too!

This should trigger a flurry of art for each of these characters.

Is that a glass-packed or a baffled muffler/drone killer?

Re: Project Veloci

Postby MH3.0R » Fri May 31, 2013 7:12 pm

Today's progress:

Image
The cats and front Y pipe has been completed and all welds look good. Sorry about the pic quality, might see if I can get a better one tomorrow when it is on the car.

Other work going on is a new bracket for the WTA Electric Pump. That was addressed today and alignment is much better than the previous photo, although the bracket was being sprayed, so could not see it. Will check it again later.

Also, the trimming of the guard to ensure the new Air Intake gets a smooth bend from the filter into the sc unit, has been finished and painted.

The original install of the electric air fan for SC unit cooling is another one of those done with plastic straps. Not on my car!!! Unless I put them there. Anyway, they will fabricate a bracket to mount the fan to the chassis. It was originally tied to the air bag loom. :angry2:

As the car is in a state of disassembly, I started looking at the wiring looms in the front guards. It surprised me to see one of the main looms unprotected with all the wires exposed to road grime. From a distance, it looks like there had been some arcing within the bend of the loom. So took a torch light to give it a closer inspection and it looks ok. Nonetheless, a major wiring loom tucked up where one cannot see it without pulling the inner guard out and this sort of exposure was quite surprising. So, an autoelec will be attending on Monday to wire up the WTA pump and I have asked for his professional opinion on the exposed loom. I feel that the inner guard material is much too light to protect it, so regardless, I will have some additional protection put in place.

So, tomorrow, the front Y section is due to be bolted up, the air intake should be in and then just have to wait for Monday and the autoelec.

Discussion tonight indicated, maybe mid next week if I do not find any more items that I want changed.

Tip

Make 100% certain to not bolt or fasten electric pump to a rigid chassis mount - will drive you mad with incabin noise!

Either make mount of rubber, hang it in the hose or something else not rigid. Anything electric is silent until you bolt it to a frame

Nice build u got going there, ill be watching with much interest from now on. :)

Good luck with it all. Question for u - what coin did the m-flow cats set u back or should I pm u about this.

Regards Grant

They were $260 each. The spec is 2.5 inch, 1.6 mm 304 grade stainless steel, Oval shape, Metal cats.

Not the cheapest price going and such is the price of expediency.

Mark

Thanx for the cat info, much appreciated. Ordered mine today able to pick them up a little cheaper than that - got lucky.

The front section of ur xhorst looks fantastic, quality work there. Hopefully mine comes up somewhere close to that n ill be a happy camper.

I would not be copying the work just yet. Wait till I hear the sound and get a tune and then run a dyno. There may be some more adjustments needed, specifically in the xForce centre pipe/muffler area. If there is any hint of a torque hole, then I may be reverting some sections to smaller diameter. Anyway, the proof will be in the driving and the real world numbers.
