Ok, the rough mock up happened today so they could see where everything fits.

First issue, the Auto Transmission Oil Cooler (dealer fitted when you opt for a tow bar on the auto) cannot remain in the same location. It has to be moved. So they are going to mount it to the front aluminium bar and centralise it in the lower central vent of the front bar. The rear of the front bar may need to be trimmed to accommodate this as long as the front of the bar is not altered and the transmission cooler does not protrude.

Well, the Transmission Oil Cooler has been relocated and it now sits on an angle in the lower part of the front bar. Looks neat and will see how much trimming the inside of the front bar needs:

Image

Had the car up on the hoist today with Ivan and Barry (the fabricator/builder) and can really see the restrictions in the exhaust. Barry convinced me that it needs significant improvement to avoid strangling the sc unit. So after much discussion, I settled on this:

1. Raptor Headers will be flanged up to the stock CATS (still some restriction there, but don't want to play with that area just yet).
2. Replace 3rd cat with stainless straight through section, 2 x 2.25 inch sections into 1 x 3.0 inch section.
3. xForce stainless 3.0 inch centre with resonator (standard Lib GT version)
4. xForce stainless 3.0 inch Y which reduces to 2 x 2.25 after the junction (standard Liberty GT version)
5. Retain the HiTech dual tip mufflers with 2.25 flanges and pipes and mate to the xForce Y pipe if it does not bolt straight up (xForce say it will not! Any contrary experiences?)

Also going in before the WTA is a Pitch Stop Mount to reduce the engine torque movement. There is also a new Auto Transmission mount going in when the zorst comes off.

Had a closer look at the intake and the crap plumbing job done originally. I have requested Barry to trim out some of the panel to ensure we get a very nice smooth 3.0 inch intake section from the filter into the sc unit.

Pics will be forthcoming as the build progresses or until they ban me from the workshop (thanks to Ivan for his patience)

So, with all these changes, I am guessing no car this week, maybe by the end of next week.

Ya can't rush art!!!

Thanks Daniel,
I am hoping to keep it as stealthy as possible but not sure the 3.0 inch zorst will help. If it is too noisy, we will replace the standard xForce front resonator with a larger one until I get a satisfactory noise level.

Boost levels (pulley size) and impeller remain unchanged from the original and will have the car re-tuned once I have some logging and learning time.

why bother with the resonator? Why not just get a 3" straight through muffler? Quiet, non restrictive, win.

Re: Project Veloci

Postby MH3.0R » Thu May 23, 2013 10:40 pm

Spent some more time at the workshop today and progress is thus:

Brake Stopper bolt reduced to facilitate fitting of the new charge pipe and BOV. The Tower Strut Brace will fit after the WTA install is completed.

Re-orientation of the charge pipe to keep the Brake Stopper in place has seen the sc unit outlet and charge pipe inlet come too close together to the point where the charge pipe aluminium section will protrude inside the bend radius of the silicone hose. Tomorrow, they will trim the aluminium charge pipe section back to ensure a smooth bend through the silicone hose.

Exhaust will need new flanges to mate the HiTech mufflers to the xForce Y pipe. Also as the 3.0 inch version is not meant for a 3.0R, the flexible flange alignment at the 3rd CAT will need to be rotated when they make the replacement section for the 3rd CAT.

Water reservoir siting has been agreed and will be mounted just under the tower strut brace using existing holes in the tower.

I have chosen some different style hose clamps for the larger diameter silicon and also opted for a Nomex Silicon hose where possible.

A full custom sc unit air intake section is under construction. It will use the existing pod but with 83mm (3.25 inch) size tubing all the way to the sc unit. Some metal trimming in the inner guard will be done to ensure a smooth intake pipe all the way.

Received the Kartboy Pitch Stop mount today from Nick at ENTRA Imports. Top bloke and great if you absolutely needs bushes, shift kits and lots of other goodies. The new mount went in today before they put the WTA in place. Just as well too as the stock one had at least one split rubber bush.

Happy with the progress given they only work on the car half of each day. Photos:

Image
This is a shot of the silicone pad that has been installed on the unused plenum chamber mount. It provides vertical padding for the WTA Cooler should it try to touch the old mount.

Image
This is the finished Transmission Oil Cooler relocation. They only had to trim a very small triangular section off the foam block so the inner front bar will not need any trimming.

Image
You should recognise this bit? An expensive shiny hunk of metal from xForce but as it was designed for the GT, some additional work required for the 3.0R to fit.

Image
This pic shows how close the sc unit outlet is to the charge pipe inlet. The radius of the silicone hose is larger than the gap, so the aluminium section on the charge pipe will be trimmed back to fit.

Image
This pic shows the brake stopper under the BOV, but fits well now. Also the tower strut brace fits nicely with enough room for the WTA to move a little with the engine.

A wider shot of the engine bay while work is in progress (in the top RH corner)

Barry hard at work while some tourist is takin photos! Oops, that would be me....

Well, more updates tomorrow if I make it in time from the CBD.
