UEL headers on a non turbo

Postby Mat04 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 6:07 pm

I looking at a set of borla replicas and was wondering will they affect my engine in any way. As I recently rebuilt it I don't want to break it again.

I've had them on my 02RX for yonks with no issues regarding engine tune but I assume you are talking GenIV.
They crack like a mofo, I've re-welded them once and they have cracked again.

Do Gen 1 OEM headers fit on a Gen 4? I've got them on mine (Gen 3). Sounds alright, did loose some performance though. Might not have that problem with borla rep/ eBay spec ones as they are a way better design compared to the Gen 1's.

No idea about the fitment of the gen 1 headers. Would be interesting to find out though would be a cheaper option.

Gen1's are equal length aren't they?

The Borla replicas will give you no more power but driveablity seems to improve.
Mine feels happier with less revs and seems to pull cleaner from low revs and is smoother as you approach fuel cut.

Gen1 headers are unequal for some reason. Have heard of people using them before.. No idea about fitment.

I had the borla replicas on my NA forester for about 2 years and never had an issue. Seemed like a decent quality bit of gear.

OEM UEL headers. Good if your car is insured in parents name haha ;)

I did notice the Gen 1's shifted the 'torque curve' lower down. It seemed with the OEM Gen 3 headers, around 4 grand was the sweet spot and around 3 - 3.5 grand for the Gen 1's.

i have the uel headers from a 91 lib on my 04 gen 4 re facelift 2.5i and they sound sweet. you can get them from a wreckers for 100-150. just make sure the cat in them works otherwise that can get expensive. also you will need to get an exhaust shop to weld in another bung for post cat 02 sensor and also rotate the flange between the cat and the front muffler. otherwise it fits perfectly. also make sure you get a dual port header. to release the rumble you can either just replace the front muffler with a hotdog and the rear mufflers with cannons or get a full catback. i replaced the front muffler with a hotdog and put on dual tip mufflers. looks and soudns so sweet. total cost about 600
there are two things i want in life. one is a turbo and so is the other one
