Group Buy: Resomat acoustic dampener

Postby bigBADbenny » Wed Apr 10, 2013 2:53 pm

Want in?
Till further notice, please contact the vendor regarding these products: http://bigauto.com.au/?page_id=46

A quality alternative to other resonance damping products, from our trusted local vendor.
This product is butyl based with adhesive backing and alloy facing. It does not smell.

This is not a heat shielding product (available soon) but it will dissipate heat on hot surfaces somewhat.
To apply, make templates using cardboard if required and cut Resomat to size, and apply pieces end to end or overlapping on surfaces cleaned with e.g., Prepsol.

Please consider that Resomat is effective with only 25% coverage to dampen panel resonance (partial coverage).
Its not necessary to completely cover panels! But some customers will want to go all the way regardless (complete coverage).
Its 2 mm thick & 3kg/m2, apparently thicker and more effective than competing products...

Pricing about 25% off the retail price.
3.50 sq meter pack $140 incl GST
1.95 sq meter pack $89 incl GST
Each GB will be 5x sets
$10 post to Vic metro,
$15 post other states Metro
Any country addresses via quote due to weight.

Estimated coverage: Use this as a rough guide only...

Sedan
3.50 sq meter pack: should be enough for 4 doors plus parcel shelf
with complete coverage. 10 Kg
1.95 sq meter pack: should be enough for 4 doors with more than
adequate partial coverage. 5 Kg

Wagon
3.50 sq meter pack should be more than enough for 4 doors
plus wagon tailgate, plus load area with complete coverage. 10 Kg

3.50 sq meter pack: firewall and four foot wells (probably not really
required) 10Kg

This GB is open for 2 months - closes 10/06/2013.
Sets will be shipped when orders total 5.
Ill probably be trekking out to pickup local members sets for another saving on post.
We could organize for an install/workshop day and rejuvenate our window guides at the same time...

Re: EOI Resomat acoustic dampener Group Buy

Very interested in this for my BA falcon.
Can you please clarify for me - where do I need to put this stuff and how much? in particular I want to dampen my front doors for improvements with front split installation, rear parcel shelf for factory shelf mount sub improvement and dampen some rear panels from road noise.

I guess I'm tending to looking at the $89 / 1.95sqm pack but wondering - do i just cover holes in the doors/shelf? or do i cover the panel sections leaving holes?

EOI shown. Only want it for the front doors, so i'd be happy to split a 1.95 with someone who'd like to do the same.

Like mark said you can get a big improvement using it sparingly.
Splitting the difference to cover holes and get +25% coverage seems like the perfect compromise...
He is pretty OCD so I'm in awe of his restraint :P

If you need more info search the web for Resomat in Au and also check out the various "Resomat vs" debates out there.
I did that before posting this GB which confirmed cruisn's approach to application.

I'll add my EOI for the 3.50 pack. I'm sure if I've got some left over once I'm done some other Adelaidean could use any leftovers. I'd much rather hear my music than the outside world. :)

You'll get a bit more out of 3.5m^2 than Benny has mentioned for the sedan :)

3.3m^2 of dynamat has done inner and outer door skins of all 4 doors with complete coverage (50% coverage on rear door inner skins). I've also done complete coverage of my parcel shelf and whatever you can get to behind the back seat and I have 3/9 sheets left :)

So a possible scenario for my wagon might be:
30x30cm piece for door outer skin
40x40cm in pieces for door inner skin/holes
X 4 doors
40x80cm in pieces for tailgate
40x80cm in pieces boot floor and under back seat

Any calculations or suggestions?

Given what DC has said about the coverage for sedan I might wind back my EOI to the 1.95 pack if that's ok. :)
