How to Remove Aftermarket Alarm System

When i purchased my car, it had an Autowatch Alarm/Immobiliser installed- because the previous owner worked in security or something like that.

I don't like having a separate remote to unlock and lock the car (The buttons on the OEM key don't do anything).
And the immobiliser gets annoying as the car wont start if you leave the ignition on for more than a minute.

Does anyone know how to remove the system completely? Removing the immobiliser and in turn, allowing the OEM key to unlock and lock the car?

I don't know much about alarms but I reckon an auto-sparky would be your best bet... Seeing as though the factory system is/could have been modified it might be abit more than unplugging the control unit

Autowatch is a very good alarm system. I had one installed on my skyline and it worked great. I believe these are factory fitted in lotus and jags too. I'd keep it if i was you but im not so, yeah.

Depending on how well the system was installed will determine how hard it will be to remove. (i.e. if done properly all of the control boxes/relays etc should be under the dash where any common thief wouldn't bother with the car and move on)

But most I have seen don't take long to remove.

There will be a number of immobilize points (ignition, fuel pump power etc), which they usually cut the signal/power wire to and add in a relay controlled by the alarm control unit. (basically interrupt the power/signal until the alarm says it's ok to power that particular component)

If you are not electrically adept, I wouldn't bother as you will cause yourself more trouble than it's worth. But if you can solder well and read electrical diagrams then give it a go yourself.

Most of the immobilize points will be near the kick panel (drivers side right leg) and there should be one going into the ignition barrel. You remove the relay and solder the wires back together (3 or more points) and that is all that is really required.

If the wires go under the dash... that's when it get a bit harder.

And from what i remember, all my wiring was black so forget about trying to go by colors.

The auto watch alarm I removed from my track car had all black wires. It make no difference as it all comes out anyway and you are just connecting the stock loom back together.

All of the wires that don't look stock basically need to get removed.

Hmm i'm not "electrically adequate"- seems like a bit of a bother for not so much gain.
I just wish there was a way for me to use the normal Subaru key/remote to unlock it...
