Potenza tyre pressure

Hey guys sorry to ask a no doubt already covered topic, but search has not been my friend on this one

What tyre pressure do you recommend using on the spec b wheels with potenza 215/45/18??

The recommended pressure label on the b pillar seems WAAAAY too low. I was thinking 36psi??

36psi when they're still cold should be fine!

I run 35 on the front and 37 at the rear cause Ric recommended running the rear a bit higher.

Thanks guys. Ill try the 35/37 set up. I have them on 38 at the moment and theyre way too firm.

Personally I love 38 cold (which gets around 40 when hot). Provides great feedback and the wheel is noticeably lighter to steer and my rolling resistance is nice and low too.

Of course the downside is that bumps and holes feel a little harsher.

I wouldn't go any lower than 35 though. Car feels too heavy otherwise.

When you say cold.. how do I inflate to a set pressire if I have to drive to a service station? Do you inflate at home or does a short drive not matter?

Cold simply refers to the standing temp before you've done any real driving. Going a few K's down the road to your local servo at suburban speeds isn't going to heat them much at all. A lot of cornering at speed will.

For example, do a day of regular stop-start city driving and your tyre pressures might not change at all when you measure them. Go for a long drive at 110kph up the F3 or do a quick twisty run on the Old Pacific Highway and measure your pressures again, and there's a very good chance they'll be up one or two pounds.

When filling your tyres, you'll be filling up with cold (ambient temp) air from the pump, so if your tyres were hot and you filled them to 38psi, the next morning they'll likely be back down to 36 or 37.

I filled mine up to 40 PSI for the Pirelli Pzeros (225/40/18). Because thats what they filled them up to at payless tyres (41 PSI) when i got them mouted. Is there a recommended PSI on the sidewall of the tyre?

There is a maximum psi rating on the side of most tyres, yes. Don't exceed that.

I was actually asking peadya100 if he had a max psi rating on his sidewall haha.. The Pzeros dont have any, so i went with payless tyre's recommendation.

I dont know actually.. ill have to look and see if there is a maximum psi on the tyres. Probably should have looked at that much earlier in the piece haha

So I finally made it to a servo today to try the suggested tyre pressures. The tyres were cold and when I hooked the automated tyre inflation machine (or whatever its called) and all my tyres were at 48psi!!! So lucky they didnt blow! They were inflated to 38psi last time by one of the old analog style inflators. Obviously it wasnt calibrated. Now the tyres are on 36 & 37 at the rear and feel MUCH better.

roughly 38 is a good compromise between fuel efficiency/grip/tyre wear/comfort etc etc. so many determining factors all of which rely on personal preference and situation.
also i wouldn't trust the ol servo tyre inflator to fill a beach ball. they're useless and most often incorrect.

i get my mechanic to do it then check with my own gauge. you know you have a good mechanic when they have the attention yo detail to fill your tyres correctly to your request.
