Currently running Penrite HPR 5 (5W-40) changed every 5,000k or 6 months. I always figured changing oil often was a good "insurance" on the engine.

Anyone using Royal Purple?? Been thinking about this stuff after reading some positive articles testing wear rates.

Coyote are you testing your oil? Just googled these guys http://www.oilcheck.com.au/index.html and they appear to charge $43 for a basic spectrum analysis. Anyone better out there to use??

I've just started using Penrite HPR 5 (5W-40) and have been going for 2000kms.
Good to know others are using the same oil.

A lot of the forester guys use delvac.. Yes it's designed for Diesel engines. They swear by it, plus it's cheap. Have heard good things about royal purple also, a bit on the expensive side tho?

I've read the PDF wear test comparo where royal purple got amazing results: any comments?
Very tempted to do an oil analysis too... Just for fun.

I use motul in mine. that's what I got recommended buy the builders...
As long as u change it frequently u will be fine with a good quality oil that's recommended by the manufacturer I do t recommend too many km over 5ooo km on turbo engines

My mate was running cooking oil in his postie bike for a long time and it never broke

I know a guy who had a 96 Barina, for 5 years he has had one oil filter. and the oil he used came out of his Silvia after a track day (the Silvia always had fresh oil for a track day). Now he sold it to my mate who has put a new filter in, and new oil, but from now on it will receive oil from his track car. And he has a $1000 limit on it, which includes buying it. After fixing the alternator and a few things he is upto $500. When he hits $1000 the only money going in will be petrol or rego. No servicing, whatsoever.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.
