First-time Subi owner - 3.0R-B

Hi all,

I'm a first time Subi owner and so far I couldn't be happier. Just bought myself a second hand Silver Liberty 3.0R B-Spec wagon 6MT.

I only picked it up a couple of days ago and I have that awesome feeling that I haven't had about a car in years - I just want to go and sit in it, then drive it, then sit in it, then read the manual, then test out something I just read in the manual, then drive it again.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions along the way but for now, I'll just read a few threads and learn a few things.

I too had the same feelings you are going thru now. These are cars are underrated.

The guys here are pretty helpful. Feel free to ask questions, and if in doubt try doing a search (top right hand link of page).

Thanks Shav and Submeister. I don't have great pics yet but have attached a couple.

One questions I have straight up is about the black strips on the front and back bumper - are these easy to get off? Are they just glued on? Can they be peeled of and the remnants polished off or is it harder than that?

Nice pics. I like those wheels.

I got a feeling those strips are glued on. If it were my car, I'd get them painted body color. Could do that yourself. Should be able to find a thread with a 'how to' on spraying body molds.

Those strips ARE attached with (strong) double sided tape. I'm not sure if you can get them off without taking the paint as well. A panel beater may be able to advise you if heat will do the trick.

Wow, great photos and looks like it would have been an awesome drive. I'll have to try and make the next one. Cheers for the info on the strips. I'll ask a paint shop.

On the strips, I'm pretty sure another Memeber by the name of Nipple06 removed his using heat and some fishing line I believe? I have removed my rear subaru badge this way as I painted it, just heat up with a heat gun, I would be very careful not to scratch the paint, but it's been done before

Actually I was in your shoes about 7 weeks ago, having purchased my first Subaru - a MY07 Liberty 3.0R auto sedan. Just like you, I'm in love! That H6 engine is just magic in the right conditions (for example during the club cruise last Sunday!)

A word of warning though..... the more contact you have with club members, the more you will learn how about the great improvements you can make for relatively little cash and the more mods you will want to do! I'm speaking from experience here having done over a dozen mods/improvements/repairs already.... AND LOVING IT!

Don't say you weren't warned! Hehe

One questions I have straight up is about the black strips on the front and back bumper - are these easy to get off?

Very easy to get off - heat gun to soften the (strong) double-sided tape and then fishing line to cut into the softened tape for a few cm's. Depending on how strong the tape is, you can usually then get a hand in there to lift and peel the rest of the strip off without any damage to the car.

Alternatively, use fishing line to cut the entire strip off and then use a heat gun on the remnants to keep them soft and roll them off with your fingers (don't pick at the remnants).

Just a continuation of the warnings from fellow members, this forum will give you a rather contagious, uncontrollable disease known to many as "The Mod Bug"

I too was just like you half way through last year, fell inlove with my 3RB wagon. It didnt take long before my first mod, a front lip to finish up the front area

Then this year came an exhaust, but that wasn't enough, next was suspension and new wheels...
Unfortunately for me that list of "to do" mod's is ever growing and I dare say, I will never see the end of it!

But, alas, enjoy the forum

Nice pickup!

I've taken those bumper strips off a few cars in the past.

Piece of piss.

We didn't even use a heat gun for the last one. Just left the car in the sun for a few hours, wrapped a flat head in a rag and pried the strip off. There will be some residue left behind but nothing some Desolv-It, polish and elbow grease can't fix!
