Which front CV for 2004 GT after installing STI 6 Speed

Hi all,

I'm currently having an issue finding a CV to fit my 2004 Gen 4 GT after installing a 6 speed STI box.
Car was a 5 speed and I have installed the new box, tail shaft, rear diff and rear CV's without to much drama(read f-loads of drama but its in now) all that I have left to do is the front CV's.

The previous box was female at the CV join. My issue is that the 6 speed box is male. This means I can't reuse the CV's that came out of the front. I had some CV's off my RS and attempted to fit them. All good but for the spline length coming through the hubs. It appears I have about 1cm of play between the CV and the hub, even with the bolt done up maximum.

I have taken apart my original CV's and the older RS CV's to try to swap over the female cup(Box side) but the splines on the shafts are different so hit a brick wall there.

Basically it looks like the hub's have changed and I need to find a full CV, female(box side) and male(hub side) with proper shaft length, to fit.

Any help greatly appreciated. I've done a lot of research but I'm not coming up with any answers. My best solution would be purchasing CV's cheaply that would fit but I'm not sure if they exist or what to specify.

Post facelift libs had 6 speeds, get shafts from them - h6 and Stis. If that doesn't work get the Sti shafts that fit the box and see how they fit, although at a guess they may be slightly shorter, meaning you would need to swap the joints onto your shaft.

So if you apply that male/female stub axle gearbox info to a preFL Lib you are winning.

I did the swap.

In short, do the 6speed gen4 libs use a male or female CV on the inner(box side).?
If its female all we need to do is order some of them.

I have played with many 6speeds, but never payed attention when removing them from a stock car.

I guess i could jack up my car and see if there is a roll pin in the CV, but im doing 12hrs 7 days a god damn week at the moment.

If anyone can answer this 100% without my having to be on the tools today that would be great.

DJA checked his Lib and found that the front cv's are male on the box side. This rules out getting standard gen 4 cv's I think. Still open to anymore ideas?

From my research, it's either change out the stub axles and use gtb front driveshafts...
Or
Custom drive shafts

Recommend more research on LGT or read the Rexnet link thoroughly..

Thanks Ben. I'm coming to the same conclusion at this point.
What front hubs should I be looking at? Year and model?
The only issue I can see with that is possibly the shaft length being different and whether the current abs sensors will fit. Any ideas on either of those?

Since your 6mt is pre '04 I think you need to change the stub axles in the gearbox based on the wrx-specific info here:

Eg: quote: JDM 02/03 STi axle stub ends are female - 30mm seal
But I'd have to read up all that info to find a similar swap to yours...

this should be fixed tonight.
stub axles were removed, seals changed, now just waiting on gen4 front shafts to arrive
