Outback 3.0 w/ single port heads - SUPERCHARGED

Outback 3.0 w/ single port heads - SUPERCHARGED

Postby Tradewind » Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:19 pm

A customer in USA has an Outback with the early 3.0 that he wants to boost

XRT is currently working on decoding the ROM, he is steadily getting it sorted.

Raptor doesnt make a kit specifically for this model, however the customer is really getting into things and moving the ABS is no problem for him. On these early models the ABS is much further forward than on 04 and later cars, this means the early model ABS sits right where the supercharger needs to reside.

Anyhow, if pics etc come along for this extremely rare upgrade of a single port EZ30 I will add them to this thread with the owners permission

In the attached picture you can see the ABS module is exactly where the supercharger should fit

The USA customer is entirely moving his ABS so the supercharger of his early H6 can happen. Thank goodness Subaru made the changes they did from 2004 onwards

I add that Ed from XRT is decoding the ROM and providing the tuning of this MAP based system for the customer.

Looks like he will also need to relocate the power steering reservoir.

This one is progressing nicely

XRT has opened up a major part of the ROM with only a couple of small details to tidy up

Epic really, not aware of anyone reflashing this model ever in the past and with SC - one VERY special machine

The first run logs have been coming to XRT and car is responding well, the power is really suprising for a car of this age, its going just as well as our later models even with the rubbish exhaust outlets on the heads

From the owner

This version of the 3.0 does not have variable camshaft timing. It has a variable induction solenoid and valve to change the air flow. The variable camshaft system wasn't incorporated until 05 in US market. Mine is straight up, cable driven throttle DOHC with ignition timing controled by the PCM

The car is nice. Even the power. But the rom is like a GOOD Woman. She ain't giving up the any secrets. Only 3 variables needed to just tune her for the SC. Beside that, she can be tuned, but not for boost. lol. I spent weeks decoding and like anything else, nothing good comes easy. Just 3 variables......

Yes but it isnt easy. Its so surprising that these 3 is so critical to the boosted tuning and cannot be found this easy. Everything else from Ignition to fuel. You saw the pic. Its just the MAP stuff and injector flow.

Customer is absolutely right into this

He has had is kit hardly 24 hrs and is modding like a demon to fit the kit to the early model. Shifting the ABS module and the Power Steering reservior are number one priorities so the charger system can fit. You have to do this on the GEN 3 vehicle as the SC kit is only made to fit GEN 4 and GEN 5

I will let the images tell the story

I his latest email, charger has now been fitted, he also has a full intercooler package from Frozen Boost for cheap - should work fine

His supercharger is clutched and the Ultra light weight version - this will be a very rare mod even in the USA, maybe anywhere in the world, no one really works on the single port motor. His stock dynos were identical to a multiport H6, motor is extremely healthy for power
