Finalise Sway Bar

Hi All,

I've decided that my 1992 Subaru Liberty LX needs a bit more stiffness and therefore want to fit a fatter rear sway bar.
I found the following on the whiteline website and I want to be sure that it is all I need. The site seems to refer to this a a 'kit', does it come with the current bushings and grease?

Comes with Poly bushes, a little packet of grease and fitting instructions for you mate.
Flick me a PM if you like. I can do you one at about 20% cheaper than their listed price.

Hi All,

I've just recieved (thanks t.renshaw) my new sway bar and fitted it.
BOY does it make a difference!! I'm loving the extra grip and the lack of body roll.

Only two downsides:
1) I wasn't able to get it to the second (middle hole) where I originally wanted it
2) There is quite a lot of noise when I go over bumps.

I'm aware I need some sort of rubber bush to help the sway bar stay still but i'm a little lost in all the whiteline products on their website. Anyone care to point me in the right direction? See below a picture of the attached sway bar.

also, PLEASE tell me that the picture above is not "finished".. you did tighten that bolt ALL the way yeah?

i know it seems like a really obvious thing to ask.. but i've seen people do some pretty fucking stupid shit on cars before so thought i would ask.. especially if you say you are getting "a lot of noise"

One thing to note with whiteline sway bars is that they use quite a thick layer of powder coating.. over a month or so it will wear through and it can come a little loose.. this can lead to hearing a faint knock as the swaybar moves around... to fix this you just re-tighten the nut...

Have a look at page 17 of this doco:

Specifically T9 in the figure referring to the bolt pictured previously.
Also note, the bushing noted in the doco as #27 was not present when I took the old (stock) bar off.

When i say 'a lot of noise' i mean I can hear the bar moving laterally inside the bracket whenever I go over a bump (similar to the sound you hear when pulling a trailer).

The sway bar (rear stabilizer) is attached to an H bracket, if I tightened the bolt any more the bracket would start bending. The screw is screwed in the same amount as when it was attached to the original bar. The sway bar i removed had a thicker connection with rubber bushings and this stopped it moving laterally inside the bracket. I just need parts that will act as rubber bushings for this new bar.

whitline.com.au have some bushings that I think are meant for this but i'm just not sure.

yours is FWD being an LX I assume?

that swaybay needs the later model C links by the looks of it
I suspect that swaybar is NOT for the FWD models

I'm with Robbks on this one.. Either it's the wrong bar or something is missing..I'll have a look at the website when I get back to my desk..

hang on a minute.. did you get the 20mm or the 22mm?

your original link is to the 20mm (BSR17XZ) Suits 89 - 9/92 models - 3 point adjustable

yet your second link is to the 22mm (BSR19XXZ) Suits models 10/92-5/94 - 3 point adjustable

yours, being an 05/92 would need the BSR17XZ...

On the advice of t.renshaw I got the 19XXZ instead as the 3-point adjustable gives a range of 19-22mm where the 17XZ only give 17-20mm.

Judging by the URL you're talking about the KLC19 kit. That does make sense that it's required. I'll get hold of one ASAP.

Hey mate. The sway bar should have bolted straight in with no other parts required as it is just a bigger and solid version of the stock bar.
Ill give whiteline a call and inbox you with their answer.

Match up the bar with your old one to ensure its has the same mounting points, before you do anything. This applies for ALL parts on ALL cars, check the replacement part is the same where necessary.

Apart from that, yes. Your bar is wrong. Send it back.

You need bushing number 27, and you can see here that the bushing inserts into the swaybar mounting point before installation. This would mean an adjustable bar won't fit your car without a different swaybar link to mount to.

So would one of the whiteline mounts do the trick? Something like the KCL16?
