Crappy Radio Reception

Hey guys,
Not sure If I am the only one with this, but my stock radio reception stucks. Does anyone know of a way to boost the signal somehow or do I just have to listen to CD's instead?
Found a radio booster on eBay, but you never know with these things lol!

Sorry to restart an old post but sometimes it's better this way.

My FM reception can be crystal clear but, when I go to AM, it can be so scratchy as to be unbearable....until I stop - then it, too, is nice and clear. But for the clear reception when listening to FM on the move, I would have put it down to an aerial thing but now I'm not so sure.

Still, I know enough about radios to be dangerous so any thoughts on what's wrong and what to do will be appreciated.

Had the rear window re tinted?

Maybe it was dam edged in the process.

People still listen to AM?

We listen to nothing but AM.
4KQ and Laurel Edwards (Troy Cassar-Daley's wife) is my favorite station plus the station plays my type of music.

My radio reception sucks balls as well. My tint on the window didn't help but surely there is a way to improve it?

Probably you would have to use an external aerial and ruin the look of the car

I thought AM was just terrible by nature unless you have AM stereo on the receiver.

I've resigned myself to just putting up with it for now. It seems to be an intermittent thing - there are days when the output is perfect and other days, driving the same route with similar weather conditions, and I hear only loud static. I cbf thinking about it atm.

Metallic window tinting affects radio reception, my tinter used a particular type because the aerial is in the rear window

IIRC - I've heard earthing issues with the antenna/rear window are a 'trade secret' in some cases, esp for intermittent problems. Clean and tighten your earth connections, it might just work AND save you a lot of coin.

I have noticed my radio reception also sucks (I never use it)
Sometimes its fine & clear, then it'll crackle every few seconds then it'll drop out totally for a about 10 seconds... Any tips?

i was about to make a thread about this myself, mine sucks when i leave anywhere in Sydney. i was thinking of putting an external arial in the form of those BMW ones that sit on the roof, that look like a fin. i don t really want to do this if possible but i want to be able to listen to Triple J when driving out of Sydney. would this improve anything?

Go to 'Radio static when the radio and rear window defogger are on at the same time'. Not an earth issue (sorry, my mistake). It's described as 'a break in one or more of the defogger grids. When the grid is broken, a high resistance field is created at the break point which can create static on some radio stations.'
