Kaycy. You want to simplify your response because you are under the impression that I didnt understand your point. I appreciate you indulging me so I will afford you the same courtesy.

Take a standard GTB.

Buy all the mods (brembos, rims, suspension, exhaust etc.) and see if it works out cheaper than buying the tuned by Sti. It is a fact, not my opinion that it will cost more so I don't see how you can argue against this point.

I bought a GTB over the STI version knowing that I was going to change the exhaust, suspension etc...So in my case it made more sense to buy the GTB as I did'nt want to pay the extra 15k for mods I didn't need, except for the Brembos I wish I had those :p

Saying that the STI is a great car and in hindsight it would have been a lot easier for it to come all factory fitted and you get the wanky factor of being an STI badged car as well

It's still an overpriced other "limited edition" of last year's car. The dollar has grown stronger since! What about the poor guys who bought the GTB last year. The resale value is going to go south.

Remember the first Impreza WRX STi's imported into Australia. Cost about $70,000 then, they were "limited editons", everyone seemed to get one when they wanted. Subaru Australia is acting like chrysler with limited editions which come every year.

Sure buying the STi bits separately might not cost any less. But that's an damning indictment of how expensive STi bits are. Especially if you buy them through Subaru Australia. Using that as a basis for constructing a case to say the 'tuned by STi' car is good value for money is shakey. The reality is that over and above a standard GT / GTB neither proposition (buy a 'tuned by STi' or buy the STi bits yourself) represents good value for money compared to looking beyond STi bits and buying from the diverse and competitive aftermarket.

For me, it is overpriced because aside from the Brembos and a few of the suspension goodies, nothing they've added appeals to me.

If you would have done those same mods yourself, then there's no way you'd do it (with the same parts and all under warranty) for close to the price that Subaru sell this car.

Good, doing mods yourself would cost more because you pay for two sets of brakes (factory fitted and aftermarket), actually it's two sets of everything that you need and labour. It does not cost more to fit a liberty sill than it does to fit an STI sill in the factory and there are no middle men to rip you off. It is the difference that I am complaining about not the modifications.

Let me make this clear. It is a nice car, a nice car we have seen last year.

Not the standard model. The "2007 GTB limited edition" which was limited last year and has come back with black brembos, 4 speed auto and 5 speed manual and "limited" again this year for the same price as last year's car.

hahaha well you better buy yourself some new rims and tyres in order to get over the brembos as well, that will be another $2k plus for good jap wheels and then lets see if you want good low profile Pirelli's that will cost you another $1600 at least. You will also want to allow for some labour dollars to install the brembos unless you are a good mechanic yourself. Starts to get pricey real quick but damn my brembos and pirelli's work a treat

Ive had brembos and Prodive rims for 2.5 years sweety, I was the first dude. And my tyres #### all over your pirelli's. For the record my Forged rims crap all over your Enki's.......

Sorry that was totaly out of character, but there is no way you can convince me that the STi Lib is good value for everyone. But hey If thats what you want thats fine by me.

There are two types of car people.

1. Those that want to get a car that has everything they require and are happy with the fact everything is factory.

These people should get the STi or The Spec B or any other model that turns them on.

2. Those that want something a bit different.

These people should get what they think is a suitable base car and work from there.

Myself I would not get the STi because half of the bits it comes with for which you pay the premium I would be replacing and so It does not represent good value.

Why you may ask?

Brakes would stay.

Wheels and tyres would go as there is no suitable rubber which I would consider for a 7.5" wide rim the only good track rubber in an 18" requires an 8" rim.

Mufflers just dont do it for me so I would also replace them.

I dont give a damn about badging, logos and the like. Therefore If I was to buy another Liberty this year it would be a Spec B and I'd put all my good bits on it.

mate if you were the first to have prodrive wheels and brembos then I will bow down to you and kiss your arse. Post was not meant to convince you or anyone else that the Lib is good value for everyone!

Clearly you have a choice and you made yours just as we all have. Between you and me a novated leased Tuned by STi Lib was an easy choice for me but as a straight out purchase maybe not.

Oh and if you are talking track cars then get a WRX STI and do it right, Libos are a semi luxury sedan at best not a track weapon for fark sake. Picture of last car I owned before the Lib SWEETY. Now there is a track car mate.

Sti is a fine track car, not going to deny it , my old WRX used to mix it up with then all the time. (Sedan was not an option so had to make do with a Highly Modded WRX Hatch). All I am saying that is that Yes the STi liberty is a good package and if thats what your after so be it. But sometimes getting a lesser model and modding it can be a better option for some people.

Eg. If I was to go back to a Liberty for the wife it would probably be an STi Liberty. But for me who has to use my car for work and play I'd rather mod one up.

We are all on the same team. Hell we all purchased Libertys of sorts did we not.

PS I was going to get the new STi WRX Hatch but I dont like the look "yet".

I must ask you since I was in Perth last week, do you have personalised plates? There was a Spotless Liberty STi sedan with plates I cant remember exactly but they were STi Lib or Lib Sti something like that. I only traveled between the Airport and the Peak Service station in Kewdale Rd Welshpool.
