2-DIN all-in-one ebay units: crap-or-good ?

Sorry if this has been already posted somewhere, but does anyone have any experience with 2-DIN all-in-one units from ebay ?
let's say similar to this one?

I don't have good experience with ebays copycats...I remember I've once bought an ipod wannabe item and I threw it away the second day, it was 40bucks and unusable. I don't want this to happen with my next purchase. In my previous car I had Alpine CDA-130 something was a great sound, lacked BT and navigation(obviously), but the UI was just horrible..

I wonder what the ebay units are ui/responsiveness/performance wise like. thanks

95% of the time... crap.

a mate of mine a few years ago purchased one, put it in his car, 2 weeks after install it shat itself.

repeated the process a few times before he spent money on a half decent SONY XPLOD 2 din unit, never missed a beat

I'm not saying I'm going to buy it, just wonder of what quality they are and I want to run my own navigation in it. I'm going to have a look at their shop tomorrow (he needs to confirm the meeting), they are here @Canterbury not far away from where I live, they are selling the unit (I've posted in the link) and some more. will check whatever I can and will report and share my feelings about it... Win CE6 is shit but it's bloody easy to get most of the navigations in it. I'm afraid of sluggish response of pretty much everything.

-OR- if anyone has an experience with successful SatNav crack of any of the top brands (Alpine? Sony? Pioneer? Kenwood? Clarion?) bring it forward. I'll not hesitate then

Doesn't have built in maps but you can use a map app from your iphone (can't remember what its called) and have it displayed on the 7 inch screen.
I've had a play with it in JB HiFi and it seems like a pretty good all round unit for a good price. Quick screen transitions and source changes etc. Might be worth a look.

I would steer clear of any eBay double din unit that isnt a known brand (ie Pioneer, Alpine, JVC etc).

My mate had one a while ago. It was slow as all fuck. The GPS was shit. The sound quality was worse than stock.

The best thing he did was replace it with an entry level Alpine unit. Everything sounded so much better. Yeah he lost GPS and the double din screen. But he never used those features anyway.

I had an "Eonon" branded cheapo eBay one. $230, double din, 7" touch screen that folded out, DVD, bluetooth but not GPS. Yeah, you get what you pay for, although an equivalent (brand name) unit when I bought it was about $1000 and this was far better than a $200 single din unit (feature wise). Had it for a bit over 2 years, it was slow between menus, had it's faults and glitches, you wouldn't dare use any equalisers if you like good audio quality, and after many CD changes the motors to tilt the screen started playing up (right before I sold the car conveniently). I bought it planning to replace it but could never justify spending more when it did its job fine.

I much prefer the headunit in the lib now. Having tactile feedback volume controls is the greatest thing ever. With a touch screen you have to look at the screen just to change volume (or after about a year you'll be able to work out where the button is AND actually press it while moving...)

Having said all that I'd happily buy an Eonon unit again, if $ were tight.

yep that are my concerns, operating the hu via touch screen while driving... I might actually end up with single din Alpine I had before plus some BT. At least the bottom din can be used for all the outs.

anyway, I have had a look, and I think they are bit overpriced for what they really are. Only one unit (I think the one with the dvb-t tuner with double antenna) could run both of my navigation software from SD card. For, me being the website developer/designer, the UI is shit, though it's not that sluggish as I've expected. But the interface for RADIO source is horrible. It played music from my iphone over BT no problem, seems like everything worked well.. it's just not going to be the selling point once you decide to sell your car..quite the opposite I dare to say. to pay 550$ for that single unit is just too much to my liking, I'd rather get that JVC.

But all my upgrade dreams got hit once I've returned to the car. I couldn't start it up, different errors shown above the odometer reader but the electronics were running all fine...I thought this one would need towing. I might add I'm not a NRMA member.. but I became one for 275$ + 153$ the battery I feel like I got myself a bit ripped but at least the lady was so kind that instead of one year I got two for that price (I must've sounded desperate ).. she broke it down for me sayin it's the 99$ per year plus as I'm in emergency within 48h, that's 170$.. bud she gave me an extra year. it doesn't feel like winning the lottery but at least it wasn't anything worse with the car.
