Jack kindly asked me to tag along to that shoot. Our friend with the RX8 had to go early, so I only took a photo of the MPS.

Mitch, how long did you have the shutter open for? Or was the star trail added in post?

+1

I think it was a long shutter because it looks like 2 planes flew thru as well.

Must have been 3-5 minutes or something!

The stars move 15 degrees an hour so my guess is it's closer to an hour :)

There were 34 images in total at 30 seconds each, so one for the car and rest for the stars. That equates to about 17mins.

It can easily be done in one take, but doing separate shots and merging them together reduces the risk of screwing it up eg unwanted light source, moving the camera etc.

Plus you won't get an 'overexposed' car.

Very cool though, I like. I will have to try something similar one day myself, when I find a dark enough spot where I won't get interrupted with ambient light, eaten by mosquitoes or freeze to death!

Went to Motorex on the weekend in Sydney. Lovely city you have there, thought I'd share some photos of Motorex and a few Sydney shots.
