Yeah, getting numbers up would be good... it'd be nice to have some guys that are happy to drive hard but don't want to scream around breaking the speed limit I like my license too much to risk it like that - it's so hard in the GT-B, coz I get up to the speed limit, and can pretty much just feel the car saying "why are we stopping, I can go so much faster than this!"

When you only have 1 demerit point left its ok to be worried of losing your licence. Until then the odd 15-20kms over the speed limit up in the hills won't hurt.

Given that P Platers only have 4 demerit points to begin with, it's still something I'm not going to risk. Sure, there were roads on the weekend that I could see well enough and was confident enough in my own abilities to have gone a lot faster, but there was also a corner or two I almost misjudged (at the speed limit) due to not being overly familiar with those roads. Some (most) of the speed limits out there are stupidly conservative and the Government largely treats everyone as incompetent fools in this regard, but the limits do exist for a reason.

It took me WAY too long to go through the rigmarole of getting my license, I'm not going to lose it over something as silly as speeding. However, I'm not going to tell you how you should be doing things, that's just me

Well, if that's the case... I'd also be a lot more comfortable with Taylors point of view (again, Taylor - you can do what you want, this is just my opinion ) if I had some clarification of this:

A speeding offence of 10 km/h or more over the speed limit is a breach of your provisional licence conditions.

It then goes on to say:

Breaking the rules
If you break any of the P-rules you could get a fine, demerit points, be disqualified from driving and have to go to court.

At whose discretion is it decided whether it be fine/demerit points or disqualification? "Technically" as a P Plater with 4 demerit points, I should be "allowed" a speeding offence of up to 30km/h, while still keeping 1 point and my license (under the current penalties as they stand until the end of August - listed in the same link I posted earlier, this will reduce to 20km/h under the new rules) - yet the P Plate rules explicitly cite 10km/h or more as being a breach of license conditions. There's too much room for interpretation there, and I can pretty much guarantee that if we put it to the test, the interpretation is going to come down on the side of the cops/the court rather than on our side.

i can tell you from personal experience that when i did over 20km/h on my ps the cops said i would of lost my license instantly but since i was (being nice and all) he left me with the fine and one demerit point left. he said usually for p platers if u do over 10km/h u should therotically lose your license

I know, I was hoping to get out there the next time my housemate and his Dad go out, just so I can take it over 100! (not sure which group they do it with, but there's some pretty high end stuff on the track in some of their photos, so it'd be intimidating to say the least!!). Possibly not going to happen at the moment

I wonder how ridiculous the cost would be to organise it as an SA event (assuming we had more than the stellar turnout of 3 cars!!)

Yep I am 20 and on my P1's. Few reasons behind it.
- didn't get my L's until I was almost 17 as I was overseas with basketball at the time.
- when I got my P2's I lost my 4 demerit points. 3 for 17km/h over and another cuple for only giving way at a stop sign.
So I went back onto my P1's.
- I am completely against speeding in the city and around suburbs etc. thats when other by standers get hurt. I was just trying to say that I'm sure more than half of the people on this forum go out on the weekends or day off etc and drive their car in a slightly aggressive manner. To see how the new mod goes etc.

I knew posting that ealier would have started something. Sorry people.
