We have the keyless and start button on our Toyota Aurion Presara. It's pretty handy when you're too busy to fish the keys out of your pocket. As long as the key is on your person, you simply touch the door handle, and the doors will unlock. Step inside, press the brake pedal, and push the start button.
Some proximity principle works for opening the boot. As long as the key is on you, you just press the button on the boot and it unlocks and opens. Real handy when your hands are full of shopping bags or groceries and you don't have a third hand to fish for the keys to press the trunk release.
There is a negative side to this though. The first day my mom got her Lexus GS300, she didn't know how to turn off the car (being a non-techie mom she didn't realise if you press the start button again it turns off). So she got frustrated and just went inside the house. Luckily I was returning home minutes later, and found the car was unlocked and the engine still running! Gez, it's a good thing no one else noticed and drove off with it. So yeah, if you get distracted and forget to turn off the engine, it will still keep running once you leave the area with the keys with you.
