Picked up the car from Subaru late today. The drive home was good albeit on a start/stop cycle (bloody Friday freeway). Eventually got to a zone where 100kph cruise was possible and no DTCs and no Engine Malfunction light and no flashing Cruise light, so all seems to be fixed. And VDC was even working via the on/off switch. During the sensor fault, the VDC Off light was on solid.

The part number for the Front O2 (A/F) Sensor is SU22641AA160 at a listed unit price of $513.92 from Subaru. I got a 10% discount, so it came to $462.53. Plus fitting, so these items are not cheap. Serves me right for being impatient!

PhatGT is also checking if his new style Front O2 (A/F) Sensor for the 2.0T can be fitted to a 3.0R and his supply will be much cheaper than the Subaru item. If they do fit, then his advertised price of $250.00 each will be a bargain for 3.0R owners.

I also looked in some of the USA parts vendors, but had to look under the 2005 Outback 3.0 litre H6 and it shows the same description and very similar looking diagram, but when you add postage, it would be a little more expensive than PhatGT's price.

If the other sensor fails (yes, there is a pair of them) then I will be going the PhatGT route unless his current item is not suitable for the 3.0R. 2nd option would be from the USA if we can verify the part is the same for the ADM and USDM 3.0 litre engines.

The other thing that I was so impatient to fix was the test connectors for the ECU. Subaru fixed these as well and tonight I finally downloaded my ROM image and sent it off for analysis.

Stay tuned (no pun intended) for some news on the auto tuning front (I hope)!

I think what Mark and Kieran are trying to say is buy these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/17-VAULT-Chr ... _500wt_922

I've seen lots of them around so hey must be good right

Also, I believe what the seller means when hey say the pcd is ford and something smaller (maybe old ford) is 114 & 100. I didn't realise ford was a pcd

Ok, time for a real update on the build:

Started with a local aussie remote tuner (one whose emails I can actually understand) and despite a definition file not in existence anywhere in the world and despite the previous tuner locking the tune, I now have a definition file for my vehicle and have successfully downloaded my image and can see the list of rom data. The same tuner also gave me a modified DBW image to write to the ECU and that was done successfully tonight followed by a test drive. I must say, that one little set of changes has made the shifting behaviour of the auto feel much better. One WOT pull from standing start on to a freeway on ramp saw all shifting happening at the correct place 6800 rpm. My immediate perceptions are that this is now going to move forward and when I achieve more success with other maps and have done some more logs, I will keep updating this thread.

I will eventually identify my tuner so others can experience the success if I do.

Sounds like you could be onto something Mark.

Blazing a path for the auto drivers.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

My tuner is here:

http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=16602&start=0

It should not be any great secret, and again, thanks to Bruce (bass_straitener) for the initial guidance.

The tuner himself is Matt, but all correspondence is via Bryce at Kido. Good responsiveness and knows his way around the ECU of ours and probably many other brands. I specifically went this path due to the knowledge of the relationship between ECU and TCU.

Nothing more yet to report on the tuning front and waiting eagerly for the next step.
