18x8.5 44. One got destroyed yesterday thanks to sister in law. Just more cash fixing shit. Why woman feel need to reshape gutters with completely custom unrepeatable painted HoK kandy wheels is beyond me. Fml. New one and two to be reprainted on one side. Sigh.

Al sorted out the Vvt issue. It's now a Toyota camry v6 for the sake of cam control and a 3cyl 2 stroke turbo for the sake of ignition. Lol. Awesome he just tackles these problems. Haltech have taken 4 weeks and can't be f'd trying on the other v12 merc being done. Vipec? All the support in the world and works when wired up and tuned on the tins in an afternoon. Muchos respect, think he might be taking the car to power play for a shakedown in a few weeks if I'm not home before then.

Hope haltech comes to the party as 2 turbo v12 1300kg sedans side by side at willowbank will be good for the noise alone.

My only care now is some taller diff gears, r230 2.9's came in an American Nissan armada v8. And if the converter is still anything over 2.5-2.8k then have to be a new one.

Ok so I took this thing for a drive today, its first outing. Max speed of maybe 100km/h.

The good:'
Starts, idles and runs like a kitten. Quiet and placid and just drives along like any other car. Stops, turns fine etc. Its like every other liberty. Stays cool, doesnt give away a thing except the intercoolers.

The better:
It handles just fine, without engine braking, it still tucks through a few twisties with confidence, none of the bullshit that people talked about. It sits higher in the front than it did with the 4cyl.
Stops just fine, stood on the anchors from 80 and it was just like it always was.

'The best:
When doing 70-80kmh in third. Roll on the throttle and it spins two and leaves black lines instantly. No waiting for boost, no 2 second delay, no care for being anywhere near power band. 2500rpm is instant smoke peeling from tyres. Yet if you just plod along, it is predictable and sedate and quiet.
Exit a roundabout and give the throttle a stab? instant spin. Just roll on the throttle gently and it grips and goes. Im not one for being a dickhead on the street with it, so I'll wait till everything is sorted and it gets to the track to see how it goes.

The bad:
CV boot on RHS driveshaft split. Not a big issue.
Shifter cable shat itself. Pro ratchet stuck in 1st was annoying. Got rough with it and got it into 2nd and just putted back to the workshop.
Has a very slight drivetrain shudder at about 20-30kmh in 2nd. Only very faint, could be a rear wheel out of balance, driveshaft yokes wearing in etc. Who knows, or cares. It's less than cars have after a year on the road.

The ugly:
When the gates open...any time you open the throttles above 1500rpm, it is loud, and the dose is massive. Back off the throttle and its like I'm being followed by 5 VL turbos chu chu chu chu chu. Attracts attention I dont want.

Bump steer, need to raise rack a little. Its only a minor issue and drives fine, no worse than many stock cars.

Converter seal in the th400 is shit, leaking a little auto fluid into the bellhousing. It isnt much, and its a 50 year old gearbox, this happens

Summary:
New shifter cable with speedflow firesleeve covering it going in tomorrow night to fix shifter issue, little heat shield over cats and dumps from an oem subaru should fit easily enough.
Car delivers on everything it was made to do, make bulk smoke at any RPM, drives quietly like a stock car when you want, and will go like the clappers with better tyres and rear shocks. Feels fast, like 130+mph fast. Makes boost nearly instantly and has so much torque it's not funny.

More tuning to come over next week.

sounds frikkin EVIL!

I like the sound of the 70-80km roll on leaving marks!

Will need a dose of restraint to get it down the quarter in a straight line I'll bet.

Fun times :D

Ok more about the black wagon now.

Image

Well threw on the new semi's. Proper r comps, not toyboy stuff like r888/ad08/rsr. So stay posted on thoughts of federals Fz201, which is finally available in aus.

Got some good pricing on 245/40/18's through damo at racingready (Facebook/web) which is well below what most retailers can buy from federal for. So props there, get in touch if you guys need tyres cheap from an honest hard working fair dinkum guy who is just an enthusiast funding his rallying. Can get hold of anything automotive most people don't bother with trying to find, think Motorsport phat man.

So first thoughts.

245 is really closer to 265. Having had 255 federal rsr, 235 rsr, 225 ku36 etc these are a proper 50mm wider than a ku36 225.

They just fit on an 8.5 wheel with 120psi to set the beads, needed a real tyre fitting machine and loaded balancer. No child's play tyre fitting here! Absolute bastards to get on. Tyre right at wooloongabba have the newest and best gear in the business, so that all went to plan nicely. Always recommend, tell em the guy with the v12 tyre eater sent you, it's worth it just to see the balancing machine. Shit is awesome.

Anyway. Loud. Loud like no other r comp I've heard. Louder than a050's etc.

Have yet to even set some pressures in them an start experimenting but in 10km I can easily say they have so much feedback, and they just didn't lock up standing on the anchors twice on a back road from 60.

May have shoot up the mountains on the weekend and get some twisty play with some chalk and a compressor to work out best pressures.

1.7 sec 60'
11.6
120mph

Best of 4 runs, it has more potential as is, tyres on it were junk. But I'm darn happy. Vids to come.
