So a Tactrix + software + laptop = monitoring & tuning vs. ECUDatascan which is for monitoring + gauges + GPS + etc on the fly w/o needing a laptop?

No probs Ben.

You're correct for the most part. You can get gauges on the Tactrix, just no GPS, unless you have some sort of GPS receiver hooked up to the laptop.

I'd be happy to help, but I reckon you guys have a real advantage with a resource like Phat in NSW.

I don't think we have a similar knowledge base in Victoria.

Looks like I'm getting a Tactrix sooner or later, since it's a complement to, and a logical progression from the ECUds.
Put me down for any tuning educational sessions, I've been interested for years.

Just wanted to find out why it has to be a $200 cable. The one I saw one of the guys at work using was the same as this sort of one on ebay.

Do it need to be the exact brand for flashing etc. I am pretty sure these ones do the same and ROM Raider is Open source?? Could easily be wrong?

The one major difference between the 2 would be the fact that you can log to the tactrix without having the laptop in your car. It has space for a SD card. You copy a config file which then logs those parms for analysis later.

It also has a warranty and is produced by the owners of ECUFlash so I'll support their business.

I can see what you mean and happy with the what you are pointing out as being the difference. Hence justify the difference.

Perhaps get the $20 one and see what you think and if you get into it then upgrade to the Tactrix. I've made use of mine a fair bit. I reckon it's put my mind at ease a number of times and confirmed my suspicions as well on others.

As you know I don't have a turbo but always curious from time to time what is in there. In saying that I am hearing there are options of getting one with bluetooth and then connect to an iphone with a couple of apps on there just for viewing. I have too much of a warranty to be playing with it anyhow, so just want to know what is going on and see if it is learning to tune itself to the 98 RON that I am running.

No need for any extension cord. It comes with a cord to connect from the Tactrix to the laptop. It's long enough to keep the laptop on the passenger seat.

All the software is free off RomRaider.com.

If you're really curious get the $20 cable and install Learning view and see if your car is metering AFR correctly and if you're experiencing any knock correction. That's all you really need to keep an eye on things.

@ Victripper: Check out HyRax profile, and review: he got +10% from a West Minist remote tune on his NA... A Tactrix (& tune) is a good thing for forced and aspirated alike.

I've been meaning to get an extension cord for ages. If anyone wants to grab one when they order their OpenPort, I'll buy it and get you to send it up here.

Must be the one with the right angle connector though.
