$500 to spend...Tune or Dump Pipe?

little benefit getting a tune before a dump pipe. Go dump pipe first and then tune down the track if money is holding you back.

Well it's looking like the consensus is to get the DP first.

I'm just concerned I'll spend the money on a DP but not notice much of a difference in performance. It could be a long while between the DP addition and scrapping the money together for a tune later.

In terms of the question about how mod-happy I am...not hugely; just want more power, less lag and a little go-cart action through corners. All without breaking the bank.

dump pipe will help you with quicker spool. You will notice the difference a dump pipe makes no doubt

Dump pipe is definitely one of the more noticeable mods, but maybe save up a little bit more before you buy one that way you can afford a better quality one

By all accounts Ultrex do a good full stainless steel exhaust system. Haven't heard anything bad so far.

For that money you can have a dump and midpipe with cat hand made. I paid about $450 for my dump hand made including cat and midpipe.

Its just a 3" pipe, splitter, no splitter, mild steel.,stainless still. Differences would be miniscule if that.

Before buying one off the shelf, i would check out some local exhaust shops and see what they can do for you. You might even suprise yourself.

Because when you compare the prices of the good brands to the cheap brands $500 is pretty cheap for a dump.

Everyone has their own opinions, I don't put cheap shit on my car I'd prefer to save more $$$ and put proven quality on.

Alot of PhatGT buyers would be upset to hear that. His DP is ~$1000. But I gotta say after seeing a mates, it was a work of art.

Haha refer to my post, I'd rather pay for quality. That said, it's true Phat's version has a 800cel (I think?) cat in it which is what contributes to the price!

Im saying that in your given objective, a super shiny dump hand crafted and smelted in the clouds of Thor isnt necessary. A dump is a dump.

Why would you assume im running no cat? The price? That included a 200 cell cat for maximum flow. I guess i have a slight advantage as im a repeated customer and have taken ALL my Subarus to this particular exhaust shop, but im not getting mates rates ect. I go back because they do a fantastic job and their prices are realistic. Back when i had my 97 Legacy GTB, they did 2.5" twin turbo dumps and the rest of the exhaust ( I supplied a muffler ) for $900. Top notch work and never had a single drama. If you swapped out my dump for one of Phats, i dont think i would notice any difference, whats to say someone cant make one just as good but cheaper?

On that note, Micheal is your go to guy for the big stuff, he did my FMIC and its the best work i have seen.

All im saying is shop around mate, you dont HAVE to have the best of the best.

As you can see from the thread title, I certainly don't have the cash for big shiny mods...I'm just looking for best bang for buck.

on a similar note to what jim is saying, just because a vendor on this forum is highly regarded, that doesnt mean you have to buy from them.

if someone is selling the same/similar product for cheaper, then go with them.
