Front brake pads for MY06 Outback 3.0R

Postby antman » Mon Aug 29, 2011 11:22 am

Hi,

I know that double posts are usually frowned upon in most forums but I posted the questions below in the Outback Country forum and, although I've had a few views, haven't received an answer yet and I need to do something quickly so thought I'd try my luck here -

"Can anyone confirm whether the correct pads for my car are the DB1491s or the DB1722s? Depending on which brake supplier's website I search (or even contact), it could be either. Are they interchangeable?"

VIN is JF2BPEKUA6G036193, so I can confirm that it's a MY06, it was first registered in Jan '06 so must have been built in '05. Looking at the pads in the calipers, I can't tell which they are although, if I had to guess, I'd say that they are the DB1491s.

Cheers

Check the pad backing plate then compare to chart on Bendix site. The 2 type look very different. May need to take wheel off depending how open your wheels are.

Thanks teK. It's hard to tell what the DB1722 backing plates look like from the diagrams on the Bendix site (or from the adb site, which has better diagrams) but I think that the backing plates on my car look exactly like the backing plates on the DB1491 diagram. They have cutouts in the two inner corners (those nearer the wheel hub), which the DB1491s seem to have while the DB1722s seem to have a backing plate that covers most of the pad with no cutouts. The DB1491s also seem to have a couple of small tabs that fold over the outer edge of the pad, which the DB1722 backing plate does not have. Is that how you see the differences?

That's right. The tabs are return springs.
